Just one more thing I forgot to mention. The parts I sprayed with the silicone lubricant. I would do that once a month. It's not thick and doesn't last as long as a grease. The upside is like I said doesn't attract dust and dirt, because it dries to a slippery film. The main gear with the grease you should only have to do once a year.

I've had my car for 13 years now and never had a top problem. I drop the top as much as I can, weather permitting. I do service it pretty often to try to keep it problem free. I grease the gears every year or so, and oil all the moving joints and parts. I also lubricate the rubber gaskets. A little maintenance that truly pays off for years of function, for sure.
open button at that point and shut off motor?? When your done, turn on motor and push open button again?? please reply..

Moving further to the rear is the main gear and drive. The drive gear looks to be plastic. I would use white lithium grease or I used a high temp ceramic grease that is also plastic safe. After I took the picture I did wipe up the grease I got on some of the surrounding areas.
Per Google search, it says lithium grease is not advisable for plastic parts ? But instead silicone grease is recommended?
Thanks

I wonder how much of this is "Tiger Powder" Just sprinkled it around my house 20 years ago and havent seen a tiger since.
My car is 14 years old and havent seen a problem yet, someone must have greased it when I wasnt looking..............

I really liked the manual roofs for the Corvette and Miata. But at some point someone said at the corvette factory that no one is going to pay a $80K for a top they need to put up manually.

Remember the Trans Am with T-top? Just a bad design.

So finding this silicone grease is a little difficult! Went to Oriley's, AutoZone and Wally world the other day and nothing. Found some on Amazon however and it should be here today.
EDIT TO ADD: This is the grease I got for it, better on the plastic gears.
