Default Valet keys

Would it be possible to make valet key from the master key?

What is the difference between them? Valet keys is longer? Have different cut?

Yeah, I know that much. What I don't know is how to make a dup valet key when you don't have one? Could it be made from the master key?

The short answer is yes.

Programming is the same, the key Has a different cut.

I no longer have my SC430 so this is from memory so I may be wrong. Perhaps someone can look at their valet and master keys closely and let us know.

From memory,, I think the cut is the same. If I remember correctly a valet key will not physically fit into the glove box lock because their is a slight difference in the physical profile or perhaps the "fatness" of the key.

Like I said, this is from memory.

I'd take a picture of my two keys but since they can reproduce keys off of pictures now, I'll just give you my observations.

Valet key: has no buttons
User's (master) key: 3 remote buttons and larger key head
Cut is slightly different between the two.
Key width and thickness appear to be the same.

I measured both keys with the micrometer. They where both exactly .116 inch Thick.

Spoke to the locksmith today. He said he can cut and program the valet from the master. Sixty bucks if I provide the key,

Can you see if the valet key physically can be inserted in the glove box lock? As I stated, I no longer have my SC430 and for some reason I seem to remember there was a difference other than being cut differently.

Thanks in advance.

I have read, in other threads, the side of the key is different, grove on master, nothing on valet.

Both of my keys have the grove, but I purchased used and all of my keys have been replaced...

Ok we can put this to bed. Bgw is correct. The master key side is cut. The valet key is flat . Outside of this both keys are the same thickness and cut on the face. You can't insert the valet key into the glove box etc.. Here is a pic of the master key side. So you can get a master cut from a valet key or vice verse. You just need a different blank.

Confirmed, the valet key will not insert into the glove box or console key holes.

I had not seen the differences in the sides of the keys before. Good observation. The master key has a raised area in the center of the key side. Another way to describe that is to say that there are two rabbets on each side of the key (using a carpentry term), while the valet key is completely flat.

The trunk doesn't have a key lock, but it would be very cool if the ignition switch detected the valet key and cut off power to the truck unlock. Never tried it, but I doubt it.
