We had a bit of melting, so I was able to get the SC out today for some exercise.
I also learned something new. If you are looking for a place to mount something (switches, etc...) consider the interior lighting brightness control. If you are like me and just leave it on the brightest setting, you can just remove it and will default on the brightest setting.
You'll gain an opening in the dash about 36x36mm. If you remove the rheostat and re-use the panel insert, you will have an 18.5mm diameter hole.
How did you manage to get your engine cover off the Injen tube? I had to do a cut out on mine.
...i knew most of the guys that had installed previously, did some trimming of the cover and I went into this expecting to do the same. I actually turned the intake tube downward as far as I could go, then bolted the bracket (that bolts into the thermostat housing), at it's lowest point. When I put the engine cover on, I was expecting it to be sitting higher on the intake, but was surprised that it was barely touching. I'll probably trim about 1/4 inch around the edge, so it won't be touching at all
So, after a lot of reading on the club forums (and all the great knowledge here) I decided to get those damn run-flat tires off my car (2006 SC430). I have the chrome TRD 8 x 18 wheels on the car and did not want to replace them. Can not remember who suggested it, but I decided to stay with the 245/40-18's on the back, but go to the slightly narrower 225/45-18's on the front (great idea). And between the opinions from club members, consumer reports, and an independent tire performance store owner, I settled on the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Oh, and I went with the not too radical 20 mm wheel spacers on the back to improve the "stance".
Well, I put them on the car Friday and took about a 150 mile trip this weekend. OMG! It's like driving a different car. Smooth as glass, so quiet the sound system sounds better, and tracks so straight on the freeway that you could drive it with only two fingers on the steering wheel. It was so different that my passenger noticed the change within the first 5 miles! Well, just want to say thank you to all of you with the experience to guide me to the right decision. Couldn't be happier!
I noticed this weekend, that after my 12volt outlet installation in the trunk, that my amp would not power up. I originally had it wired to the antenna power wire and then changed it to a power wire on the DVD player. Recently, after adding the 12 triple outlet, I found that the amp would turn off. I did some testing with a voltmeter and found that the blue remote wire into the amp was not getting a full 12volts b'c of the split to the 12volt outlet. So I tore apart the trunk and switched the remote wire and the 12volt outlet back to the antenna. No problems now. While I was in there, I also added a "add-a-circuit" to the trunk fuse box (Fuel Door 10amp- an always on connection; hopefuly won't eat my battery as they are off in natural state) to power my LED Deflector Light and RF switch for the media player/NAVIKS. Everything works great now. Feels good to be back to par.
Detailed my interior today.
So after getting a big smile from maguire's headlight restorer not too long ago,
And today using maguire's gel shine on tires, and maguire's leather conditioner,
I feel like I may end up being a maguire's spokesperson. Lol
The leather conditioner has a nice smell too. Thought it was nice also that the picture they used for the product is our car. Lol.
Did I mention I also used maguire's super shine for the dash.
I did my 1st cross rotation on the SC Sumitomo Tires. Prior, my awful PZERO RF’s I just did a RR to FR rotation, because the tires were directional.
Now I have the normal tires, feel better about it. No noticeable wear. I had 2K miles on them. Have not done a test drive yet, I will take it out for spin later today granting it is not raining. It is going to be freezing in ATL this week!
