What did you do to/for your sc430 today?
#901
Today I finished making and installing my custom rear wind deflector. I hope it is all I think it is. Let me know what you think!
This is the image through my rearview. I guess you will have to make the picture larger to really see it. It is in red right now but I can change to different colors (rgb)

Installed a backup camera today.
Works seamlessly going from NAV to rear view when in reverse.
Soundgate VIDTOYO1V4 Plug And Play Video Input Interface For Toyota Vehicles. On eBay. $29.99
I think these units might be going out of availability. Have seen the price go from $79 to $59 now $29. And sites also saying they are no longer available.

pictures-installation-procedure.pdf
Lot of info in this link and links within it.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...s-install.html
Total project cost $40 and some time.
camera was $9.99
No pictures it has been done here before.
Install went ok.
Notes:
I got switched positive power from pin 18 grey wire on the larger plug
Got the reverse power from the red wire on the small connector in the fuse box (described by someone else here). Connected both camera power and the trigger signal to that. No need to use reverse light wire for power.
Be sure to ground the parking brake wire. It is supposed to go to the parking brake so you can’t see video while driving forward as in a dvd from the other input. Left ungrounded the camera works but NAV does not.
A way to pull those plastic trim buttons with the slot is to use a small zip tie pushing it through then pulling up. None were damaged.

I was seaching left and right for something similar before I bought the Naviks and couldn't find anything about this.
This is awesome find. Might buy one for future project.
For this price, all SC430 owners should get backup camera.

For the pin 18 and also the red wire in the fuse box, small connector I made the connection by using a single wire pushed into the connector itself from behind. Did not splice the wire. On the pin 18 I doubled the wire so it was tight and the red fuse box wire it was tight with one strand.
I wouldn’t have done that on an aircraft or other critical system. If it fails I will know what happened and get to it.
After all all what are the connectors.. really just wires pushed together and held securely.
I put on small wire ties close to the wire insertion and half inch down the line to hold it secure. So install was easier.

But I don’t see why it wouldn’t. The unit just plugs into the NAV system and switches the video input.
If it has the NAV DVD player in the back why would the uk one have different connectors?

I've wondered about that in the past. I have sold things on eBay before and always just put USA only because it was easy. But you have the option of contacting the seller and asking a question. Couldn't you contact them and say "I am from the UK, I will pay extra for shipping and here is how much postage to put on it. Will you send it to me?" For me I would probably do it.
Not only for this thing but anything else that says they won't ship somewhere can you ask for an exception? They might say no but might also say yes seems to me.

Tomorrow is my birthday so:
1. Ordered the door rigidity kit from Japan. We'll see if this is still available.
2. I amassed all the parts necessary for the rear sway bar upgrade from the 12mm stock bar to the powder coated 17mm ISF bar. Installation will be Wednesday as the MOOG links will be in Tuesday PM.
3. After removing the SC430 and Lexus logotype from the rear, (I saved them.) I washed the car. Then I hit these spots with NuFinish.
4. I ordered a junkyard replacement NAV screen. I will modify this to accept the iPhone: WAZE and backup camera upgrade. I'll keep the present unit as a spare. I like the look of the walnut hiding the screen when it is not in use.
5. I washed the car again with what used to be DuPont #34 powdered wash. I like it better than the liquid washes because it is highly resistant to storage temperature fluctuations. It also is very economical and is just a wash. I think I have had the same canister for 5 years.
6. Just for laughs I hit the spots in 3. above with NuFinish again.
7. I am about to order a Dr. Colorchip kit. I've looked at the door, etc. and cannot find the paint code. Does anyone know the paint code for a black '02 SC 430?

Which door rigidity kit did you order? Part #MS304-18001 (GT86) or MS304-00001 (common type)? Did you notice the difference?
On my mazda miata I installed delrin door bushings and there was a noticeable rigidity difference.
