The first step is to get the codes while the top button is being pushed. You kinda need toyota's software. It is called Techstream. You can go to the dealer and they can get the codes for you for a charge.
Or you can google "Clublexus.com SC430 Techstream" and find out all you need to know

Thanks for the reply, I am working on getting error codes but if I understand correctly the codes can only be read when the top is actually stuck in an other than fully closed or fully opened position, in other words, when the top is not working and that when the top gets stuck if you turn the car off the codes will be lost unless the top is still stuck when you turn it back on. The problem with this is that the top invariably stops working so intermittently that it is never near the Lexus dealer when it happens and you are not suppose to drive with the top stuck halfway so the first issue is it is difficult to get the codes. Any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Gman...yes, I know that sounds simple but i don't have a techstream attachment and the top only sticks intermittently so I waiting for it to stick again and then drive over to my local shop which is only 3 or 4 blocks from my house or they may even drive down to my house to get the readout....thanks.
BTW am I reading your email correctly that you have on 07 SC 430 for sales with 57k miles....the color appears to be black, is it the true black or metallic and what color is the interior....I may be interested or know someone who might....thanks

Mine was black on black, bought when it was 58K miles five years ago for &28K. Now it’s 70K miles.
I will pass her on to my grand daughter when she is 16, which is 10 years from now.

Thanks GMAN I had a black on tan that I loved also so I can understand why you are saving it for your very lucky Grandaughter. Unfortunately mine got totaled about a year ago when I was sitting in park at a hwy construction down on US 101 near Florence, OR when a truck came around the corner apparently distracted and happened to smash the entire driver side and hit the car so hard it damaged the wheels, alignment, tie rods etc etc but I got a 2002 red/tan that I love with half the miles on it my black one had and love it except for this random intermittent top issue. I know, a very irritating issue. Thanks
