2016 brings -- the end of Habious
Bad news -- after a zillion mods (most notably his Car Computer featured in a NY Times article) Habious has sold his SC and bought ..... a pickup truck.
(of course, his other car is a Tesla Roadster)

Old modders never die, they just buy trucks!

But, I didn't just buy any ol' pickup truck. I still wanted a convertible.
I kept the "14 MPG" plates...because they still apply (5.3L V8 engine), and now I have space to actually HAUL stuff around!
So, enter my 2004 Chevy SSR

The Hyundai dealership here in spring Texas seems to always have about a dozen ssr's on the lot. In talking to the owner he just really likes them and always has. They do stand out still. Have fun cruising in the ssr. It looks nice.

No problems so far but, I've had the truck about 7 hours!
Runs very smooth up and down. One of the things I pointed out to JohnnyCake that I really like is, unlike the Lexus (which just gives you a red blinky light when there's an issue as to why the top won't go up/down), the status screen (where the odometer and such displays) actually gives you information if/when there's an issue (tonneau cover unlocked, depress brake pedal, stop vehicle first, etc).
Chevy (and a few aftermarket companies also) makes an wind deflector for it but, I'm not sure it's necessary. The windshield comes up pretty high so, with the top down and the windows up, the "breezieness" is very manageable. I drove back from JohnnyCake's today with the top down and the windows up. Doing 70 MPH on the highway, I think it was about 48° out...and very reasonable. Just had a cotton hoodie on.
I got lucky in that the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo installed (a Kenwood unit)...so I've got Bluetooth handsfree phone, Bluetooth streaming audio, iPod/iPhone support, USB media, Pandora, SiriusXM ready, backup camera ready. The stock stereo (AM/FM/CD) is pretty blah so, I knew that would be the first thing I'd have to swap out when I got one. Thankfully, this is all done for me (and whoever did it, did a proper job of it...clean installation, even the steering wheel controls work the new head unit).

I will say, driving the Lexus to and from Richmond (where the dealership was located)...about a 2-hour drive...really made me remember just how good a car the SC430 is.
Mine was an '03 so, going on 13 years old. Had 123,000+ miles on it...and completely rock solid. Still one of the nicest highway cruising cars I've had the pleasure of driving. Smooth power delivery. The Chevy SSR roars when you floor it however, the SC430 had just as much power...but delivered it without the "rawness" of a muscle car.
Refined, classy...that's the SC430.
When I tell people the tale about shopping for (and ultimately buying) the Tesla, I always point out that the only reason I didn't simply go out and buy a 2015 Lexus SC430...is they don't make one!

I got a ride and I must stay that if you're gonna buy a truck, this one rocks! It has that perfect engine note -- raw V8 power. Definitely a head turner.
The top is probably worth a video posted. Whereas the SC is a zillion parts and movements, this one just arcs into place in a single movement. Much faster also, although I'm told the max speed while operating the top is zero since the brake must be depressed.

Well, hopefully, you'll stick around the forum some regardless. Congrats on your new truck though. It looks like a fun one. (I didn't even know that they made a hard top convertible truck. (The Dakota was the only convertible truck I was aware of and they quit making that a couple of decades ago.)
I'd like to see that video also.

Hell! I didn' t know that Chevy made an electric truck. Maybe you can get your LuxLink to work on the truck. Thanks for all the help through the years. Please keep us in mind in the future. I bet the SSR Club (if there is one) will welcome you with open arms. Good luck with your new ride.

Funny story Just sold my SSr to buy the SC430. Nice truck but rides hard. You only have to step on the brake to start the top moving then you can remove your foot. Go to SSr forum lot of good tips and people.
