Default Odd little problem with pass door

I've only put a few thousand miles on my car since I got it last year. I noticed my wife has to slam the pass door rather hard to get it to shut. I figured the striker/latch alignment must be out of whack and didn't think much about it. The other day i started taking a look at it and realized the top of the door glass is just barely contacting the roof as it closes. The more I look at it, the more I think it's not a problem with the door or glass adjustment, but maybe the roof. If I adjust the glass barely down, I don't get a tight seal. Anyone run into this kinda thing? These are designed to just barely miss each other and there has to be some sort of tolerance stack up adjustment other than loosening the hinge bolts and retightening.
-Thanks

I would NOT adjust the hinges and there should be no reason to do this unless the car has been in an accident.

You are correct in looking at the window area and need to compare the drivers side to the passenger side windows etc.

Also, it is odd that the less used passenger side has an issue before the drivers side.

This could also be d/t body flex. Are you parked on a flat surface? I made the mistake of not leaving my windows down while raising my car on a rack. I then realized i needed the wheel lock keys which were on the passenger seat. Lowered the car about a foot off the ground. Open the door, grabbed the keys. Tried to close the door and it wouldn't latch. Had to drop to the ground, close door and then rerack and raise. Uneven body flex could be part of the problem.

I experienced the same thing the other day when the car was on a rack getting the TPMS sensor replaced...I opened the door and could not close it.
This sounds like a reorruring problem and he said the glass is striking the roof. It sounds like the door latches are fine.

Has this car ever been in an accident?

treyster, to answer your question, yes the glass comes very close to the roof when it is being shut. However, if it is making contact with the roof, then the glass needs adjustment.

There is a DYI to replace the triangle weatherstripping on the doors in this thread on post #37.

I believe on post # 72 and beyond there are posts describing the window alignment and height adjustments. (There's more stuff in the middle also that I don't remember.)

Thanks Harold! There's a wealth of info in that thread to digest. When spring rolls around I'll start going thru it all. Looks like maybe a window adjustment coupled with a weatherstrip replacement/adjustment may be in order.

Yep, there's a bunch in there. Just removing the door trim is helpful to rectifying several different issues. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
