Rear trunk struts
I had done a search on the sc430 rear struts and came across my own question I had asked in that prior thread. My 2005 sc430 when it was 6 years old and still under extended I felt that my trunk was not working properly . I went into the dealer and had it looked at. I was told that as long as the trunk stays open when its raised at least 1/2 way up it was ok. I have now noticed that unless I raise it to better then 2/3 of its travel it wont hold up. It does not seem to be the same as it once was.I usually believe in using oem parts but in the face of paying 250.00 + for lexus struts vs ebay or other part source I am going to choose the ebay version. There have been many opinions in the thread i searched and I decided on going with the strong arm version. It seems there are mixed reviews on what brand to use . Are there any recent reviews that any one would share

I bought the same ones on amazon approx 38.00. Should be easy install . When you installed did you remove the top of the strut first then the bottom or does it not matter

There are instructions that come with the struts and I believe that is what we did.
Be sure to have a helper or broom stick to hold up the door.
Also, you must remove the small clips in the ends of the struts. I just used a small blade screw driver to pull the clips.
When installing the new struts, you just push them on. It is very easy!

Mr. B, that strut appears to be fully extended.
I think you are good to go!

According to the website, that strut should be 14.76" when fully extended.
If that is close you should have no issues.
Also, do not remove any clips on the new struts.
The strut ends can be twisted by hand to line up with the attachment points.
You cannot compress the struts by hand but they will compress once you install them.
Only change one strut at a time
pay attention to which end the chrome is located.

The bottom was more difficult to disconnect...if you pop the clips out, they will come off very easily.
Again, do not remove the clips from the new struts.
