I finally pulled the trigger on a replacement for my 2002 SC430, and purchased a shiny clean 2006 in Chardonnay Pearl with Ecru interior. This one was owned by an elderly attorney in Ok City who passed away last September (at the age of 93), and the car only has 18K pampered miles. It looks like it spent most of its life so far tucked away in a garage -- in a word, "Immaculate!"
Here's a photo of the car when I picked it up yesterday (I know without photos, it never happened...).
I will probably schedule the timing belt/water pump replacement at some point in the next year (seems wasteful for a car with 18K miles, but it is 10 years old, and I plan to keep the car for a long time, so it's probably worth it). I only put 3-4K miles per year on my SCs, so it will be a LONG time before I wear this car out (maybe someone will buy it from my estate when I keel over at 93).
I'm considering having a Chip Guard applied to the bumper/hood/mirrors, since the car has basically zero rock chips at this point (amazing for a 10-year old car). I'm also contemplating the extended warranty offered to me by my Lexus dealer. It's not a Lexus warranty, but is from a good company that my Lexus dealership has worked with for 30 years, and is relatively affordable (6 more years, 60K more miles, $1981 total for full coverage).

Warning on the warranty, other than the traditional Lexus extended warranty which your car no longer is qualified, I highly suggest that you keep the money in the bank. There's a lot of talk about warranty insurance. Even though it is being sold by the LEXUS dealer, you are holding the short end of the stick. I am disappointed at this Lexus dealer pushing a product that is not what it appears to be. Lexus extended warranty is as close as you can get to a real manufacturer's warranty. They all expire after 75K miles or "X" years, whichever comes first.
Reasons are:
1. If the car is as sound as we all hope it is, then money is yours.
2. Something happens, use the money for repairs.
I have mine for 5 years & I only put 11K miles on it. Beside installing mod & oil change,, the only repair it need was a new Door Luck aculator ($350 - OEM part & labor). I will not spend the $$ on extended warranty unless I'm getting a used Range Rover.

I ended up paying $27K for the car, which I think is a bit high, but given the condition and amazing low miles, I decided to go for it.
I hear what everyone is saying about the warranty... I tend to agree, but there is a bit of a "peace of mind" that comes with a full 6-year warranty. I have a great Independent shop that works on my Lexus cars for a great price, so I really probably should keep my money invested elsewhere...
For a 6 year warranty, that is a pretty good price. Just be sure to do your due diligence on the company and talk to the service advisers there at Lexus to determine just how much they actually cover, keeping in mind things that are most likely to give you issues that you'll want insurance/warranty to cover (top action, CD changer, amplifier, speakers, etc.).
