Was in Borders yesterday and saw the new Consumers Guide ratings book. The SC scored slightly below average for comparable luxury cars but that is not exactly where I would classify it since sports cars have a lower average rating in general. The SC did outscore the SLK, SL and 911. They noted that the wind noise was the lowest in any convertible they tested. The ride was deemed a bit harsh because of the performance tires and slightly worse with the runflats but still got MUCH better marks than the SLK, SL and 911. Acceleration was deemed to be pretty good and on a par with a 911. Interior of course got bvery high marks. Steering was considered adequate, a bit less responsive than the SLK, SL, 911. Anyhow, that is about all I can remember. Nothing too surprising to anyone in this forum, I think. Overall, not too bad when compared to other sporty convertibles.

Sorry, but I just don't understand how someone could compare a Porsche 911 with an SC430.. I have them both and they are totally different cars!!!! I love them for completely different reasons... It just totally boggles my mind when someone compares them and states how one is better because xxx.....
...perhaps staight line acceleration can be a test but try to take the stock SC430 on the track vs. a Porsche 911 and tell me they are the same class of car???????!!!!!!!!!
THUS I TRACK RACE my 911 and Daily Drive my Lexus SC430 in spring/summer/fall

The Consumers Guide ratings are based on regular overall street use. Plenty of 911 owners use them for that purpose and I considered it as well (along with the others mentioned). If you are comparing cars on a race track then obviously different features come into play but most consumers don't buy something with that mindset. I had no interest in a car being fast if above all else without considering the total package. I am glad I made the choice on that basis and their higher rating for the SC over the 911 and others bears this out.
