I haven't upgraded my head unit, so just going to throw out a few suggestions, but I did have a question.....you stated that you put the head unit into shipping mode, so was that the Kenwood or ML unit and why did it ask you to do this ? Next, what was the procedure for doing this and depending when it was done (for example, there was still a connection between head unit & amp/power source), there could be a safety feature that was turned on, to keep from burning the amp/radio on the installation. I would also check for fuses behind the head units and possible the amp also, that could have blown out when connecting/disconnecting, due to a grounding issue

The shipping mode was on the original ML Head Unit. The directions were to push the "seek" and "disk" buttons while turning the ignition to ACC On. The unit showed "Ship" in the display. Thanks for the input.

if you reinstall the ML head unit, does it still show ship mode, do any lights come on?

No lights came on when I reinstalled the ML head unit. I wasn't sure if putting it in Shipping Mode disabled the power up in some way. The display did read "Ship" when I turned the ACC off and disconnected it.

I believe you must have blown a fuse somewhere because if you placed a bad radio into ship mode how could you install a new radio with no power?
i believe ship mode parks the six cd tray making it safe to ship.

I have already checked the 30AMP Radio1 fuse and the 10AMP Radio2 fuse. Am I missing another fuse somewhere? Just to clarify ... I put a "good" radio into ship mode.

i believe that may be the only two and will try to confirm when I get home tonight. Will check the wiring diagram.

Not meaning to get off this debugging session but when the ML unit is removed, is there a security protocol that must be followed to prevent it from going into some sort of anti-theft mode that disables it?

here are the wiring diagrams for the radio. You need to check power on the connectors with a multimeter.
if the radio door opens and closes, the 10A Radio No.2 fuse is fine. As for the 30A Radio No.1 fuse, just touch both sides of the fuse to check for voltage...I am assuming you have a multimeter and know how to use it.
if not harbor freight sells them cheap and just watch a YouTube video to find out how to use it...
