Question Tire Wear

I just noticed the fine print in the brochure that says the low profile tires will last only 15,000 miles. That means replacing tires every 12 - 15 months.

1.Does this refer to both run flat and regular tires?

2. What kind of life is everone else getting out of the tires?

I think it refers to the runflats. Mine has only about 2500 miles, so I cannot tell you how long they will last. But this has been discussed before in this forum, and I recall that some owner(s) claim their original runflats still have good tread after 20,000 miles.

I find the ride of the run flats acceptable on rough roads and smooth on good roads, but still plan to replace them with Michelin Pilot A/S before the tread is gone. I prefer a more luxurious ride, which is what this car is meant to be.

Default 21000 and going strong

My SC is 2 years old and has 21000 miles on it with the original RFTs. I looked at the tread the other day and seems as if I have a while to go to get even close to the wear indicators.

I have a strong feeling that Lexus had no idea how long the new run flat technology tires would last so they went on the side of caution and said low mileage..... or maybe the tire mfgr said they wouldn't last long??

..but plenty of people here seemed to have gotten 20K + out of them... I have heard they start to get noisy once your past 20K though....

I think both regular and RFT will only last about 15000 miles on the rear set if you never rotate tires.

my dealer rotates my tires every 5000 miles. I have a little more than 10000 miles now and it seens I still have plenty of tread life left on my RFT.

Default 17,000 miles - still plenty tread

I'm at 17000 miles, and they look like there is sufficient tread to get to at least 20,000. Unfortunately, a month ago a nasty pothole grabbed the right side of my car, and I have a small bulge on both right side tires. At my last service check-up, couldn't get them balanced to rotate, so I had them put them back on the same spots. Am in the process of replacing them now.

DSEAG - Unfortunately I had to stray from Bayshore and head up Howard towards the interstate. For anyone else on this forum living in Tampa or planning to visit, there's a model of the grand canyon in the right hand lane at the northeast corner of Howard and Kennedy. You'll be able to see it because of the rubber from my tires on the side of the hole!! Stay out of that right lane!!!!

Default Misaligned from the start

At the 5,000 mile service, my dealer said that the tech thought the tires looked like they were wearing unevenly, and when the tech test drove he said the tires were noisy. I myself thought that there was more road noise than when I first bought the car. The service manager said that the car was probably mis-aligned and to go ahead and drive the way it is until 10,000 miles. They will replace my tires at 10,000 miles. I appreciated the candidness of the dealership.

Default RF Tire Wear

I got rid of my RFs @ 23,500 miles.........there was at least another 5000-7000 miles left on them. Now that I have the Michelin Pilot a/s on, I keep kicking myself for not making that change at mile one.....As I have said elsewhere in the Forum, the ride/comfort/sound are really dramatic...GET RID OF THOSE DAMN RUN-FLATS ASAP.

Amen, brother! I replaced the runflats with Michelin Pilot Sports and couldn't be happier. Dramatic difference. The runflats (w/ 10,000 miles) are stacked in my garage and will go back on the car when she moves on!

Default yup...

I couldn't believe how much better the ride became when I switched to my Bridgestone S03s.... and what really shocked me is that they are 19s!!! ....yet still significantly better than the stock 18s with RFT...

My RFT mounting on the oem wheels sit cleaned up and tripple bagged in my basement with only 6K miles to go back on the car when it gets re-sold down the line

..meanwhile, I'm loving my SSR GT3s and S03s

oh yeah... and my Injen Intake is amazing --- I just don't understand why Lexus didn't do this from the factory for the SC430!!!!
