Default Warmer Air Coming Out of Two Vents

I recently pushed the 'dual' button so the passenger could get warmer air, while the air conditioning was on. I set mine to 65 and theirs was set at 72. Now, the two vents on the passenger side of the car are a few degrees warmer then driver side. My mechanic said there are little 'doors' that have something to do with the air temp mixture and maybe one is jammed. I'd like to kick start everything to work again and does anyone have any ideas? Much appreciate! Michael

So what is the problem? You set the passenger side to be warmer and it sounds like it is. What am I missing here?

I have since changed it back to 65 degrees on both sides of the car (driver and passenger) but the temperature of the passenger side still has remained noticeably warmer. Hope this clears up the confusion!

Take it out of dual and place the drivers temp to max heat then back to max cold. This should adjust both sides at the same time. Repeat the process several times if required.
let us know if this helps.

Thank you very much, however still isn't working right. It was taken out of dual a couple of days ago. I tried your suggestion twice -- once where I left the car on for about 5 minutes with max heat before switching to cold -- and also turning it on to max heat and quickly turning to cold. I will try it maybe 5-6 times more and hopefully will get lucky. Thank you again for your time and concern.

Either jammed or the actuator motor has failed. Dual zone is such a "fluff" feature that I'd hate to spend money on it. I'd ask your mechanic whether there is any way of simply forcing it open. You'd loose the dual zone but save cash.

(I thought Bgw70's suggestion was excellent -- too bad that didn't work)

This seems like your first post here, so first let me say WELCOME! But more importantly, please circle back and update this thread when you resolve the issue so that others may benefit in the future.

Much appreciate the warm welcome and the suggestion! I'll definitely look into it with my mechanic and follow-up on here once I know more.

In a lot of cars this means that your A/C system isn't fully charged with R134.

Here is a JUST ANSWER link that might help you http://www.justanswer.com/toyota/6tw...e-climate.html

I briefly tried to look up your problem in the Lexus Service manual and the indications point toward the balance actuator.
NOTE, there are four servo actuators in the HVAC system.
there were more items that could be the issue but the actuator stands out due to the higher failure rate of this part.
these actuators are just small servo motors and there are other threads showing the part number for the servo motor.

Thank you again. I spoke to the mechanic and he said it's either the actuator motors are stuck or not working. Told him about your suggestions and he asked me to ask you if you've ever experienced a situation where two vents work at the right temperature settings, and two don't when you've got the air conditioning on? Without disagreeing, he didn't understand how the charge would "balance out" all the vent temps -- he couldn't understand that connection. Any thoughts, please?

i know for a fact that low refrigerant can cause this. I have seen it in other brands. I have had this personally happen, and have seen it in other vehicles. I have also seen the servos be the problem too. Even less like it could be the hvac controller.
