I understand your thoughts about undercoating. My problem with it are these, it can hold moisture and cause rust. People also use it to hide damage. For this reason I think it hurts resale value. I know it would if I was looking at a car, and it had been under coated later in life. Just my thoughts though

....you could try dynomat or some type of sound deadening material on the inside of vehicle. I've been thinking about doing this to my vehicle, whenever I have a reason to remove the carpet/interior or if I do a bigger stereo install

+1 on that idea Texsexlex. It will probably give better results than undercoating too. More labor for a better product and result.

Other than that the Gen 4 unit is faster, has more features, and works great. Great advice.

Now for a 2nd issue I am struggling with. For some reason this model SC430 has a lot of tire noise. Both sets of tires I put on it had this issue. I am thinking of getting it undercoated to reduce the tire noise. I read up on this and it seems to be a characteristic of the model. what can be done to reduce the tire noise in the inside of the cabin - in addition to turning up the radio?

Thanks in advance.....
what brand and model tires do you have?

That is a new one on me. Most people mention how quiet these cars are.

Different tires have different noise. Sites like TireRack actually rate the tire on how quiet it is. My guess is that your best bang for the buck is to get a "quiet" tire when you next have to change.

HELP!!!!! I installed the Gen 4 GPS CD player oin for the last 60 days, it worked fine. Today I got a CD is damaged or dirty message and no GPS functionality. I removed and replaced the CD and it worked for 20 seconds but then the same message came up.

What is the issue - the new CD or the used cd player I just installed?

Thanks for all and any help here.

Can you see on the disk surface there are circular lines from spinning? Chances are the player has issues because the data disk either works or doesn't when its new.

Did you thoroughly clean the DVD? (If not, give it a thorough cleaning.) If so, it is probably the player. I suspect that it is the player. It doesn't make sense that the player would work for a while and then quit and start working again if it was related to a dirty DVD but it is possible.

There's a big thread about the player problems on this forum and discussing what typically goes wrong and what the typical error messages are.

...is it a factory disc or copy ? If it's a copy, this could be the issue also. I bought a copy once & it didn't work all the time, I replaced it with a factory copy & had no issues afterwards

Last week I installed a Gen 4 Nav purchased from ebay ($200) and also bought a cheap ebay 2015 Gen 4 NAV disk. A fairly easy plug and play mod that works great.

Thank you all for your input. I am really confused now and it may be due to a weird electrical system in the SC430....

The next day after I posted the issue I went out and now the TPS light is on. I opened the GPS and it worked flawlessly. I struggled with the TPS light as all 4 tires were within 10% of the target 33 PSI. Anyway I topped off the tires (it was in the 30's during the night) and continued to use the GPS and it worked fine.

This makes me think I have an infrequent problem or some dirt on the CD reader. I purchased a CD cleaner disc and now ask if anyone has any experience cleaning the head in the GPS CD reader. If yes, please share as I plan to either (1) use the CD cleaner disc immediately after I receive it (coming from Amazon) or (2) wait until I get another CD is dirty message and then clean it then.

Thoughts?????
