How to get GPS updates after 2013
The final Lexus SC430 (1st and 2nd generation) GPS map and system update was released in OCT 2013. As my 2002 SC430 is in excellent operating condition, I want to have current GPS maps (CD).
What can be done or has been done to install updates after Oct 2013????

Thanks for the welcome and the reply. I need the CD and I thought the Gen 4 was not a CD
My local LEXUS dealer replied I am SOL for the getting a new maps CD. What is the medium for GEN 4? How compatible will it be with my current set up ...do I need to change something and how expensive will that be?.
Thanks for the help

Sorry for for not being clear, when I said gen4, I was referring to the unit in the trunk. Just find a gen4 unit in a salvage yard, eBay etc and replace the gen2/3 with the gen4. It is plug and play, very simple and easy.
then you can purchase the U30 DVD 2016 update.
gen4 part number 86841-50090

Thank you for this info. Will the Gen 4 unit exactly swap out for the gen 2?
Also a little advice. I saw 10 identical gen 4 units at ebay varying in cost from less than $200 to a lot.
Which one should I purchase and what should I look for?
Thanks a lot....your help is great......

As long as you use the part number I provided...they are the same unit.
I would purchase the $200 unit. Why pay more?
Just make sure the seller has at least 99% positive feedback and at least 50 reviews.
Also, if you see another unit with a higher price, make the seller an offer, I do it all the time and all they say is yes or no.
Offer them $175 and free shipping...trust me it works sometimes. Just remember, there are plenty of sellers and they all want your money.

I just put a Gen 4 in my 2004. Nothing to it. The newer unit is better than the old one and I believe that Lexus still produces the DVD every year for the Gen 4 player. On the advice of another member I bought the newest DVD available. Bought mine from mylparts.com for about $150 with CL member discount. Could have probably bought it cheaper on ebay, but too many "copycats" on ebay to suit me when it comes to software.

Thanks for all the advice and especially to offer less than asking price on the used Gen4 unit. I got it for $35 less and now need to do the exchange. I cannot get the new GPS update CD until late OCT so I will not install it until the first week in Nov.
Thanks again

Mostly yes. All the hardware came out easily but the issue was the electric plugs in the back of the DVD unit. There are three relatively simple snap in place plugs and 2 came out fast, the third took 20 minutes to loosen and then it finally came out.
Other than that the Gen 4 unit is faster, has more features, and works great. Great advice.
Now for a 2nd issue I am struggling with. For some reason this model SC430 has a lot of tire noise. Both sets of tires I put on it had this issue. I am thinking of getting it undercoated to reduce the tire noise. I read up on this and it seems to be a characteristic of the model. what can be done to reduce the tire noise in the inside of the cabin - in addition to turning up the radio?
Thanks in advance.....
