2005 SC430 Service Contract?

....this topic has been discussed in some earlier threads & it's always been pretty much split down the middle. I purchased the extended warranty for my Sc 8yrs ago & never had to use it. I do all the regular maintenance myself & if it's a job too big for me, I have a mechanic that has worked on Lexus products since they began making them. The only "unexpected issues" that I've encountered have been a leaking radiator, alternator & a/c compressor and my Sc has 235k miles. These cars are built to last, but like anything else, something can break. The majority of the members haven't had any problems, but there have been others with different issues. $1800 isn't bad for that extra piece of mind, but keep in mind with 136k miles, there will be some everyday wear & tear that you'll be responsible for.......either way, I think you'll enjoy your purchase & be a happy motorist

Not the same warranty as new. Read the policy. I think it's on Lexus's web site. The things it covers rarely if ever break

When I bought my sc430 PB for $13K (118,000 mies) last week and was offered a 3yr/36K warranty for $3,000. I didn't even stop to read the summarized info in the contract, i quickly replied "no, thank you"... my backup plan is a friend who works on Toyota/Lexus. Will be checking in on the 90-100K service whether radiator/belts/water pump were changed out by prior owner.

I wouldn't do it.
I also wouldn't take the car to the dealer. If you can find a local independent Lexus shop or just a good honest tech that knows these cars, you'd be better served.
The dealer offering you "better" service than a good tech is a fallacy. They *can* be better, but that rarely happens. I've had too many bad experiences with anonymous techs and sheisty service writers just throwing parts at cars. On top of all that, they charge exorbitant rates.
Rule of thumb - anywhere that has a service writer in the front is a good place to avoid. Try to find a place where the guy working on your car is the same guy with his name on the building.
