Default Concern about replacing fog lights and having the caps open?

I know that many of you replaced the fog lights with LED or HID. When I tried to do that my trusted mechanic strongly advised against it because it would leave the light well caps open and expose electric lines to water. How did you guys solve the problem?

My caps closed completely and are sealed tight. Purchased mine from ijdmtoy.com. Not sure what type of LED bulbs you're looking at purchasing if they require that the caps stay open. Could you provide a link?

I used these... http://store.ijdmtoy.com/H3-880-LED-...0-02x-5730.htm. But please do know that the LED fog lights are more for show than functionality. LEDs don't focus light like halogens therefore they have a wider spread than focused beam. Just thought you should know.

My impression is that the LEDs without heat sink usually don't put out much light. The ones that have probably won't fit in the well. I guess I will have to stick with the stock kind.

The lumens ratings are the main thing that you'll have to go on when purchasing lights. Try to get the same or higher lumens. Unfortunately, that doesn't tell the whole story as the focus angle becomes rather important for head/fog lights.
