Convertible top problems

I never changed the package tray motor, so I'm not sure. You can ask Aliga. He has to figure out how to take them out so he can ship them to us.

So I was watching this video from Eric the Car guy. He says if you have an electrical problem and the car has had body work done to it, you should always check the repaired area for damage. He says you should look for broken wires, poorly attached grounds or wires that are pinched or appear to be damaged. He says that often times the wires break inside the insulation so even though the wire doesn't look broken, there is a bad connection.
That sort of sounds like your situation. Maybe one of the wires in your trunk area is damaged or loose, which is why you need to press the down button multiple times.

So is your top up or down?

Take a look at the PDF named 74 at the bottom of this message to lower your top
I think you can use these two pdf's to get to your package tray motor
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...y-overhaul.pdf
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...components.pdf
However, if you think the noise is coming from the middle of your fender/quarter panel. That doesn't seem to be where the package tray motor is located. The package tray motor is behind the back seat.

Here are three really good posts dealing with the package tray. Unfortunately the verdict is you should go to an independent Lexus Mechanic.
You can read them and decide for yourself if you want to tackle it, or if you just want to show the posts to the indy

I was having trouble with my top going up and down. I scanned it a couple of weeks ago and there were no codes, but when I tried the button, the top was working normal.
This weekend my top wasn't working and I scanned it with techstream again. It gave me a convertible top error code.
I think you should scan your car while the top isn't working and see if you get a code.

What is this motor? And is that an adjustment **** on top?
Update!!!!!
Got someone to try and listen to see where that whirring sound was coming from....
and the top opened!!! So while I had the top open it seems that the noise is coming from this little motor

That makes so much more sense than the package tray motor. It is located right in the middle of the fender, just like you thought.
I would consider buying an entire hinge instead. They are about the same price as a seperate motor and it is easier to replace the entire hinge than it is that one little motor. Just make sure the hinge is guaranteed.

Also, I don't remember which side of yours is bad, so make sure you get the right side.

Before I do all that though, I would wait until your top stops working and scan your car for top codes. Even though your motor might be making that noise, it might not be the only reason your top isn't working
