Dealers would be the most expensive route. I suspect a dealer would be in the neighborhood of $700 parts and labor. But its more important to discover the cause of the failure. For example, there is a known problem of leaks from the power steering assembly that can damage the alternator. That’s why testing is important BEFORE repairing. Or, your battery may be weak and not holding an adequate charge for cranking. In addition, have additional loads been added to the electrical system? Originally Lexus installed a 100 amp alternator ....later years it was bumped up to 130 amps.

Seems like I paid an indy shop about mid $300's to replace it, so a dealer would likely be close to $500.

If your alternator is dying, you will see the battery warning light lit on the dashboard. I suspect the battery. How old is your battery? Do the alternator test first, then replace your battery.

I recently bought an SC430 and my battery is randomly dying, I started it right up and went to Home Depot, I came back thirty minutes later and found it dead. Again, I started it up before and then shut it off, then went to clean my trunk. I then went to start it up and the battery was dead. The next morning it barely was able to start, and then the day AFTER that it was dead again, and was making noises similar to a jackhammer while trying to start it. So, I jumpstarted it and it runs just fine. I took it to sams club and they did a battery test and said it was fine, and now I have no idea what to do. I don't think it the alternator but I'm not sure.
how old is the battery?
if you didn’t install the battery, there may be a date on the tag but there is definitely an engraved date on the battery case.
the engraved is a date code, could be numbers and letters.
a battery can become weak after two years...heat kills a battery and the weakness shows up faster in the cold.

I will let you know, how my battery drain was resolved. I think that the fuse to my radio is bad. I turned off my radio and interior lights, instead of leaving it in auto, and I was able to start my car after 4 days of not driving it. Previously, my battery would die between 24 and 48 hours, when the radio and interior lights were set to auto.

I agree with GmanSC!

If you don't arm your car alarm, the battery lasts much longer when not driven. It is not an option for everyone. but if your car is stored in your garage, it may be an option for you.
Just don't use the lock button or the remote to lock your doors. Physically reach over and flip the lock into the locked position.
With a relatively new agm battery, I can go more than 3 weeks without driving the SC.

I can almost say it's a battery.
Battery drainage is culprit for the SC. If your battery is around 3 years old, it is time to replace it.
The SC will kill the battery in 3 or 4 years. My last battery was only last two and a half years. Installed new in Nov 2016, died in April 2019.

My battery is 2 years old. It was tested and is fully charged at 12.5v. The alternator was tested, too. It is working fine.
I dropped my car off to be diagnosed by a mechanic today. He wants to duplicate the problem and see what happens when my car is parked for 48 to 72 hours with my lights and stereo in auto mode.

A battery maintainer is a good investment especially of the SC is not a daily driver. $50 well worth it.
