Question ATTN: Anyone with 20" wheels on their SC430

What size tires are you guys running??? 245/40-20...245/35-20...255/35-20??

Please let me know what the best tires size is for a 20x8.5 wheel so that the speedo & odo differences are minimal. Thanks - JSC

Default Wheel Advice

Gene, the AutoCouture Magnifiques on your SC430 are beautiful, but they're a little pricey for me and I want to stick with 18" rims. I just switched the runflats for 18" Michelin Pilot Sports with the intention of buying the wheel conversion kit, but who knows when that is going to happen. I've gotta move on and ditch the pie plates!

I've been looking for something with a fairly full face like the Magnifiques because I think it best complements the car, especially with the AutoCouture front and rear lip spoilers which I also have. I kinda thought the O.Z. Opera II might be a nice wheel for this car. I know they're usually used on sedans, but it just may work.

Since your car holds the CL crown, I'd like your opinion. Sorry I'm not techie enough to attach a pic of the wheel, but they're on "www.ozwheels.com". Whadaya think? I would really appreciate your input.

Opera 2's are awesome. I had a friend with them on a 540 and they are slick. Check ebay I saw a staggered set of 20" on ebay a while back for only 1900.

dseag2, I agree that the full-face wheels look better, and I agree that the the OZs should look good.

genearch indicated that he's running 275/30s on the rear, but that may be a bit wide for JerseySC's 20x8.5 rims. Checking the specs for Pilot Sports on Tirerack shows a minimum rim width of 9".

Thanks for all the help fellas...I think the bottom line with this SC430 is it needs 20's....18's & 19's just don't cut it IMHO (somewhere a pothole just heard me) Thanks again!!!

Just a nomenclature issue, I believe OZ calls the 18" model the Opera II, and the 20" is the Opera III. Gorgeous wheel, I was going to put the 18's on my ES, but decided against due to width issues. I think the thickness of the spokes is perfect for the SC.

I'm actually going with the 18"s (Opera II) since I only switched out my tires to Michelin P/S 1,000 miles ago and I don't want to buy another set of tires. I'm also happy with the current ride/handling offered by the 18"s.

No doubt the 19"s or 20"s would look better, but at this point anything will be a big improvement over the OEM wheels! Thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

OPERA is sure a gorgeous wheel, but one problem is its limited lip size. On SC430 you could get twice as much lip on with offset. (same size wheels, just different make).

so for those who enjoy sporty wide lip size rims, I suggest take a deeper look upon other makes.

I definitely think if you are to upgrade upon SC's oem wheel, 19'' is decent, 20'' is right. Since 20''s is where you will really start to notice the difference.

Thanks for your feedback everyone, but the 18" Opera II's gave me just the difference I was looking for. Much more attractive than the pie-plates... sporty yet classy. May go with 19"s sometime in the future, but these are just fine for right now. The ride is even better than the OEM wheels. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to upgrade. I've tried to attach a pic. If it didn't work, there are some in the gallery. Thanks again, guys!

Very very nice dseag2. You have the same SC as I do, silver/saddle, and after looking at the picture you posted I've changed my mind about the OZ Antares. The Opera II's are better.

Thanks, John1968! Believe me... you won't be sorry. They look great on the car, the wheels themselves are beautiful, and the ride is even smoother than the stock wheels. I believe they are also a bit lighter than the pie plates, so there is a slight improvement in handling.

You do need to be aware of something...
The Opera II's are not compatible with the tire pressure sensors, so they will have to be disconnected. This is actually quite simple and there are other threads in this forum that give specifics on disconnecting the light and beeper. (I printed it out and took it to my tire guy.) I don't need the pressure sensors since I switched out my runflats for Michelin Pilot Sports (non-runflats) a couple of months ago. You only need them with the runflats because you can't see it if they lose pressure. Do yourself a favor... when you replace the wheels, replace the tires as well. It makes a world of difference, and there are many owners in this forum that will tell you the same thing.

The tire shop that replaced the wheels gave me the originals back, along with the sensors, and told me they'd just switch everything back out when I'm ready to trade the car. Good luck!
