Default Rear view mirror problems

I recently picked up a 2006 SC430 from a local BMW dealership that was a trade in. Overall the car is in great shape and I am very happy with it except for an issue I am having with the rear view mirror.

When I was buying the car I noticed the the windshield was cracked and asked them to replace it prior to purchasing. Glass was replaced without any issues and everything appeared to be fine. However, when driving on a bumpy road I noticed that my mirror's position never stayed in place after adjusting it back into place numerous time. It was subtle at first but after a while I noticed that when touching the mirror it would shake and come loose.

I managed to put it back into place but it is still a bit wobbly when I touch it but appears to be fine when just leaving it alone.

I drove to the local Lexus dealer and was told that my windshield is aftermarket and the rear-view mirror is not compatible with it. This doesnt make sense as the problem is with the connection between the neck of the mirror and the circular base that is connected to the actual windshield. The connection between the base and glass is completely fine, its the plastic-on-plastic connection thats giving me the problem. I was told by the dealer there is nothing they can do and won't work on it because my glass is aftermarket....

Took the car to an independent body shop that specializes in Lexus and was informed that the mirror is broken and I would need to order a new one for $1,300...they did tell me that the dealer's diagnosis was BS and the mirror works fine with aftermarket glass.

Has anyone went through a similar problem and have a fix in mind?

the selling BMW dealer should take care of that I would think; it happened after they had the glass replaced at their cost ( I presume ) so they should have their glass company stand behind their install. Good luck.

There is a small spring clip that keeps the mirror from wobbling. It was actually a TSB (Toyota Service Bulletin) in the past for the pre2006 SC430. So if the mirror clips into place properly and holds well but just wobbles, check that spring. When my mirror was replaced, they lost that spring. Part 87825

I have replaced the spring mentioned above. They come in pairs. Solved the wiggly rear view mirror. Just do not know if the same issue exists with the OP.

Looks like the clips inside are bent and very tender and spring is also missing.

do you guys know if it's possible to order the clips separately? I tried to use the link above but it did not work.

Thank you

In looking at the ddiagram here it looks like the only part inside of the mirror is 87825. Looks like this should be a cheap fix?

the guy who installed the new glass is supposed to get the part for me tomorrow and attempt to fix it. Looks like that spring is extremely sensitive and bends easily

what are your thoughts on Lexus vs after market glass? I didn't think twice about it and just told them to replace the Windshield...wondering if I should have gone with OEM glass

There's been a long on-going debate about this that I don't believe has ever been resolved.
