Based on all the people who told you it was not done, I would assume it has not been done. But if you want to be sure.
I had my mechanic friend take off a belt cover so we can look at the belt. It is in the upper right hand corner of this picture and has a white label on it.
It took him about 10 minutes and we could see the belt was obviously worn, but not close to breaking. This let me know I need to change it, but have a little time to find the best means possible. The timing belt kit is down to about $200 on Amazon and they might even have someone who will install it for you.
I have decided to let my repair service do it as I know they will not change it if they figure it out. They are the ones that thought it had been done based upon a flap or something that was bent and would not have been bent if it had not been changed. Great group. Love the picture and I will show it to them. You guys are great.
Updat: Loved all your helpful comments. Here is the end of the story. Lexus dealer wanted me to put s new Timing chain and water pump in for $939, my outside Lexus repairman looked at it and said it appeared it had been done by just seeing a tab or something that had been bent which made them believe it had been changed, but if not ,it would be $800. I was then told that the out the door cost from Lexus was $900 instead of 993.,so I decided for $100 less I would have Lexus add it to the repairs that Lexus was performing for the car to sell. I questioned the out to door $900 and they said, "no", it is 993. I changed my mind and contacted the other repairman and told he would do it later. In reviewing the fax I noticed a gap between services being done, so I called the most used Lexus dealer by the former owner and asked him if he knew the owner of the car. He did and he called him. The owner had indeed changed the timing belt and the water pump along with other work and told me where. Contacted them, confirmed and saved $1000k. Thank you to my outside repair shop for giving me their thoughts, snd the other Lexus dealer who took the time to contact the owner. Good ending! Thank you all....lesson, have your car checked by 2 sources when you buy, too bad.
