Default Clear Coat Problems

I am on my second Lexus SC430. The current one is a 2008 model. The first one was black as is this one. I had clear coat problems with the first one as well as with this one. The car has been garaged almost 100% of the time. It only has 19,500 miles on it. Have other owners had this problem? Is there an inexpensive way to get these blemishes fixed. I have a couple on the hood and a couple on the roof line near the window. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig Murphy

The picture of your hood looks like etching from bird dropping, not from clear coat peeling.

Default Response to Clear Coat Problems

I appreciate your time in responding to the clear coat question and the picture. It "may" be from bird droppings but there are more than one of theses spots. I am not the original owner but I know that if a bird crapped on the car I would clean it up as soon as possible. I am guessing that the prior owner would also do the same. I guess it is possible that it sat on a car lot somewhere and that happened, but they also try and keep the cars clean to try and sell them. Additionally the other Lexus SC430, black in color, had the same issues. Just FYI. Craig Murphy

....although I haven't seen the pics/spots, it could also be water spots from a sprinkler or possibly power washer, since you say the same spots are on the other car. These stains can be just as hard to remove, as dried bird dropping stains

What causes those hard water spots in the paint on how can we remove them? Variable speed polisher?

hard water spots left can etch the paint just like bird droppings. Water spots you can try citrol, clay bar, polish, wet sanding and polish, finally respray in order of lest invasive to most invasive. Depends on how deep the etching is how far you have to go to resolve it.

Default Clear Coat Problems

I "may" try to fix it. I could start with a clay bar and then try to very gently polish it. But the clear coat is completely missing. I think it has to be feathered or wet sanded and then a new coat of clear coat sprayed on. I just don't have the patience or the skill set to delve into this very far. I did look at a couple of youtube videos and it looks like it is doable, I would hate to end up making it look so bad that I would be forced to repaint the car. Anyway thanks for all of the input and suggestions. Craig Murphy

Vinegar and water can work well for hard water spots that haven't etched the clear yet.
