Question SC430 Top Problem - can't find a similar issue through search..

Hi, I have a problem with my 2002 SC 430's top, and after an hour's searching through the forum, I can't find another mention of the same problem.

The top raises and lowers completely, but the rear latch is not extending. Through the process of opening, the bottom of the lip touches the bumper, which causes the rear latch to extend a bit, then, when the trunk lid closes, the rear of the lid remains up - about a half-3/4 inch. I imagine that this is because the door hinge cable isn't pushing the rear latch up, nor retracting it at the end of the cycle.

Has anyone else seen/experienced this? Is there a fix? Thanks so much,

Russ

Can you take a picture of what you are talking about?

Yeah, or better yet, post a video on YouTube and link to it here.

You may want to take a look at the cable. It is a pretty simple system.

Just take out the passenger side carpeting and the spare tire carpeted cover and you can see the cable. It runs from the latch to the bottom of the trunk space and along the back of the car to the hinge.

If I were to guess, there is a connection point under the hinge that holds the outside sheath of the cable, so the inner cable can move. My guess is the connection came loose and the whole cable is moving when you open the trunk.

My cable broke, so I am looking for a new one. In my search I came across a couple of pictures that may help you.

I was having a similar problem with my top and it turned out that two bolts had gone missing. Once those were replaced everything was working good as new

I think that is what happened to mine too. The bolts got lost and the cable bound up and snapped.

Can you show/describe how the cable gets mounted to the hinge?
