Default Power Steering noise only when cool/cold on morning startup

Hello
My 2002 SC430 has a noticeable whine that seems to be power steering related. No drivability issue whatsoever, just whine. The sound goes completely away within minutes, and doesn't return during the day. I'm going to flush all my fluids soon and we shall see if that helps. Thanks' in advance for any help!

I would consider your serpentine belt first. I think it maybe wearing out. I think it whines because the belt contracts in the cold which causes the whine. As the car warms up the belt warms up, resolving the issue. That is why it does not do it during the day.

Thank you for your response. I would have thought the same thing, but I just replaced it because I had a tiny squeak that I couldn't find. Someone on here told me to change the belt and THAT noise went away. This Is a pump noise though. I think I will change the fluid as a first step.

Low power steering fluid does create a whine. Hydraulic fluid does expand as it heats up, that's why you have a cold and hot level on the dipstick.

And the plastic reservoir wil stain from the fluid indicating the fluid may be at a higher level.

BTW, if you are low on fluid, you may have a leak.
