Default Window trim / mounding restoration or replacement

The black rubber window trim On my recently purchased '06 SC looks rather faded over time and I was wondering what my options are.

am I better off replacing it or perhaps can it be painted / touched up? Has anyone replaced the rubber molding with chrome trim as seen on some of the newer model cars?

Also if I am planning on a paint job in the future am I better off holding off until then? I'm not sure if trim is required to be taken off prior to painting?

The rubber/felt strip, I would just use some 303 protectant. If you're talking about the black painted door cap, I would either have it repainted or plasti dip it.

When my weather strip gets chalky(black rubs off) on my vehicles I have used denatured alcohol on a microfiber with decent results. Just be careful not to soak too much up in the microfiber. Just remember to keep turning the microfiber... once the black is imbedded in it, it won't pull off the oxidized rubber well. We have a similar condition with the stainless showing through the ends of the trim on our sc430 and haven't addressed it. It's hard to get paint to adhere to stainless or chrome in such a small area in my opinion.

I wonder what it would cost to replace it all together, most of the exterior insulation is starting to look worn. Would think the parts are not too expensive but labor might be an entirely different story (assume it has to be at a shop that does body work, which is never cheap)

Parts for trim are high. For a Lexus? They are no joke. Labor would be pricy as well regardless.
