This is the cable he is talking about. I am trying to locate a P/N also but a salvage yard is probably the way to go or even possibly repair that one. Here in the States we have Home Depot that sells braided cable in all sizes, coated or uncoated. I don't know how feasible that is really. But gotta throw out the curve ball occasionally.

If you look closely on the right arm there is a cable attached to the hinge itself.

Check P/N 64535-24010. CABLE, LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT

The one problem you may have is that the P/N says its part of the hing assembly. And as I interpret the information the P/N above is for cable leaving back knto the trunk and motor. I honestly don't know.

After I bought my SC as a project car, I had to put it back together. I had the same problem with that cable.

I bought a replacement cable and it resolved the issue. It was years ago, but I don't recall it being difficult

If you have a toyota dealer near by, you can give them the part number and they can order it for you.

Or you can contact the guy from ebay who is selling that front hinge (the wrong part) and ask him if he has the cable for sale. If he is parting out a sc down to the hinges, he most likely does.

Hi Daryl
I have ordered it through main agents 98 pound.
3 weeks from Japan.
This is my back up I have approached several breakers and awaiting reply
The cars are rare in the Uk so like you say eBay etc is the best chance.
I have found it worth the effort as retired so have time and have a couple of motorbikes if need transport
I reduced my Cars when my wife passed last year, this Lexus being a project I will keep and maintain.
Certainly learned a lot striping it all down
i will keep all trim off until working and lubricate with silicon grease etc critical parts.
thanks for all your help
lees part number was correct and the dealer confirmed this.

Sorry to hear about your wife. That is a tough blow.

The SC is a wonderful car. After I got mine up and working I found out it is super reliable and I rarely have to do anything to it. This is both GREAT and Terrible since "wrenching" is my hobby.

Sorry so late to respond Sir. The reason I didn't think it was the package tray is because the roof opening stopped almost immediately. The package tray doesn't get the cycle command untill it is about 1/3 of the way open. I assumed a hinge problem really but checking the motors was just his next step after his inspection. Which fortunately identified the problem. 😊

My 2002 SC430 stops at 45 seconds in this video. The trunk will not close. I can open the roof again completely fine, but when I bring the roof back on it get's stuck at the 45 second mark.

Try disconnect the battery completely. Hope the ECU will reset.

Do you have TechStream? It helps to generate the DTC.

I think you need to take out your trunk interior. It is not very hard to do and will let you look at all the convertible innards. My guess is there is a cable that came loose which is why your trunk lid is not closing. It has been YEARS since I worked on mine, so my knowledge is a bit rusty.

But I think once you take out the interior carpet, along the right side of the car you will see a steel cable with a barrel end. The barrel end came out of it's holder, or the cable broke, or something like that.

you can see it in this picture Raven posted

Well. If I see the video correctly, the top just hit the front stops. I would put dollars to donuts that one of the plastic shrinkable guide pin boots came off, is stuck in the hole preventing the front roof latches from fully engaging. Easy to check. Easier to fix.
