In my 2005 SC430, the Nav Screen is washed out in daylight and I have to depend on my $100 Garmin GPS device. I have not seen any advice to boost the screen lighting for these conditions. With all the bells and whistles that the Lexus offers, I would much prefer the Lexus Navigation over Garmin.
There are brightness and contrast you can make in the settings. And you can tilt the screen too. But in all honesty I don't even recall when was the last time I even used the factory Nav. If you live in the city Nav with live traffic is a must and everyone nowadays uses Google or Waze for that.

i am with jzdulexus, just load Waze on your smartphone, if you use one...
use the nav screen for a backup camera or for your passenger to watch TV.
I understand the usefulness of the integrated NAV. I don't have unlimited data on my phone (I also know some folks that don't have phones, shocking I know but true) so using the map function on my phone is kind of a luxury. So unless I'm specifically needing traffic information, I use the Lexus NAV unit also. As jzdulexus mentioned, the brightness and tilt can be adjusted but even those can only do so much.

Yeah, crazy people like me who don't have or even want a cell. My gps gets plenty of use.

Yeah, my wife has a cell that is for emergencies only. It doesn't do data or text. I probably wouldn't have a cell except that I got one for when I was unemployed and needed a way for them to get a hold of me wherever I was, at least that was the excuse I used... Before that, my employer gave me one to use so they and my direct reports could get a hold of me whenever (aka, electronic handcuffs...)
I have to admit, they are convenient, just an expensive habit though.
The Nav is useless except for the back up cam. The map is 2D, outdated and does not offer real time traffic. My IPhone does everything from making call and playing music from the library or YouTube.
Does anyone find the way to disable the auto open/close function of the Nav door?

....I hadn't looked for a way to disable it, but I'm pretty sure the nav door has a fuse. If you close the door, then pull the fuse, it shouldn't open. If you try this method, make sure the fuse isn't duel purpose & being used for something else also

I need it to stay open for the back up cam. I want to disable its auto function so I can close it manually when I need.

If you click close while the car is on it should stay closed (at least it does on my '02). That is, when you restart the car it won't go through the open / close process. It will stay closed until you click open again.

The problem of that is the back up camera will not come in when you're in reverse.
