I'm sure you have considered this, but on the outside chance.....if you end up cutting the rod and it is wedged tight, there might be some (or a lot of) tension. That piece, once cut, could be lethal. We want you safe and a part of our SC lives :-)
Took a day off to tackle this beast. Success! Took your advise about removing the bolts on the cross bars. Found out that the nut is welded to the chassis support. However after i loosened the bolt the bar gave a little and I was able to yank the bar support away. With some force I yanked the bolt off the spindle hole.
Thank you for those who reminded me to practice safety, really appreciate it. I did.
Bolts are in, had to support the spindle and some tugging did it, of course with an additional set of hands, life would have been easier...now need to find the torque required for these. Can not be more than 77 ft-lbs I would think same as the wheels...
Soon the SC will be whole again.
Lessons learned, once a year, lift the car and inspect bolts and nuts for the suspension system, making sure there are no gaps in the nuts and they are snug, take pictures if you can. A little investment that can help you some down the road, take it from me, a big lesson learned!
Test drive complete. So sway, good brakes. I finally debugged the creak and the sway. My electric torque gun did the trick on the bolt. No cutting required. Loosening the strut supports did the trick, thanks for this tip.
