I have a 2002 sc430. The gps display shows all functions as it normally would except the map data showing is wildly inaccurate.

You may have a very old mapping CD. You need to check what version of CD your running . You can get it VIA the menu settings or just remove the disk that is in the trunks navigation player. Usually when there is an issue with your year sc430 is a cant read disk error if your not getting errors than your disk may be old or some other issue like the antenna could be a problem [ If the antenna went bad its a major repair because its behind the dash and requires a significant labor to get to it and the antenna itself is pricey

Hi MrBlister,
My version is U02. I did purchase the U08 and indeed had disk errors 80% of the time. The times the disk could be read made no difference in the problem.

I would like to replace the GPS with modern stuff but I want the display to be where the old display is and not at the radio level. I feel it's safer to see the screen at eye level rather than look down. Know of this type modification?

There are posts about changing the radio in the sc430 and you can get gps ability with the new radio. The installers can make it so that the new display on the new radio will work and also you can mirror that to the OEM screen you now have ,
Do a search and you will find many posts about this

Dumb question, but do you have the correct region selected? When I moved to Florida, I had issues like that until I changed the region to cover Florida. Otherwise, maybe your GPS antenna got disconnected somehow.

ALSO, what do you mean by "map data wildly inaccurate?" Do you mean that roads are not present on the map? Or do you mean that the car drives off the road and through fields, etc? If the car is off the road, it is surely a antenna/speed sensor issue. Can you input a destination while moving? That would also suggest an antenna/speed sensor issue.

Thanks johnnycake for your reply. The u02 was oem and working fine then just suddenly developed my problem. The u08 was from eBay but was unreadable 95 % of the time. I rest the system by a battery disconnect and was finally able to load the software from u08 into the system but that did not fix the problem.
The he screen starts out as a field of white with the cursor showing but no streets. If I zoom out streets appear but not in detailed way. So, no streets are present to answer your question #1. Yes the car/cursor takes me off in abstract directions.
Have not tried the in motion test yet.
