Default Auto Dimming Mirrors

Hi All--

Well my Passenger side mirror was perfect the other day. I go to get in my car, and noticed the Mirror now has the weird looking multi-Color defect. I believe the Seal must have a leak around The Mirror! So ordered a used one from E-bay!!
Something similar like this has happened on my prior BMW Z4, the mirror developed a very strong Brown color tinge to the surface! BMW TOLD ME THE SEAL WAS BAD, HENCE THE CHEMICAL IN THE MIRROR is causing the distorted colors...I was hoping the Lexus would have not developed a similar problem, I guess that Technology is flawed I'm many brands of Cars, but again, my car is 15 years old, I believe probably the Seal got broke going over a bump!

Has anybody else replaced any of the Glass on your outside Driver or PASSENGER MIRRORS?

I looked on the Forum, there is good directions to take the defective mirror off!

Thanks!!

The mirror pops out, I saw another thread on removing the mirror...google it or do a search for mirror in the SC430 section.

you pull the bottom of the mirror and the clips will release.

you might want to find the thread with the pictures and instructions first.

Hi All,

Replaced the Mirror and all went well. Hardest part is getting Mirror Glass back on! The trick I found to get the clips to snap, put some 303 protectant on the 2 bottom Tabs, and then it went on smooth!

Thanks!!

So, since I have removing a mirror in my future, what was the trick to popping the mirror off? I tried pulling and slightly yanking the mirror from the bottom as the instructions stated but the mirror never budged, just the gears and motors. I didn't want to yank much harder and break my mirror (like happened to Shawn).

Default Yes the trick

Hi Harold,

Taking the Glass off the Mirror, it takes some patience for sure, I almost gave up! I tilted mirror all the way back so that I could get my fingers under the Lip of the Mirror bottom middle section! Now that I know that spraying some 303 Protectant on the 2 bottom tabs before installing new Mirror worked! I guess you could use other types of lube. I did not use any lube to take mirror off, however I guess that would also help to get the Mirror off! It does take a bit of pulling to get the Mirror off, just take time and apply force in different amounts, soon or later it will pop off!!

Bob

So you just pulled, not yanked to get the mirror loose?

Here are my issues with removing the glass part of the mirror. Please read it and be SO CAREFUL in removing the glass. It's very expensive once cracked.

I've read your post that you linked above a few times in the past Shawn but finally fully understood what you meant today. Tilt the mirror up as far as possible and release the clips directly with an object rather than pulling on the mirror to pop them loose. Thanks
