Default Tire Pressure Monitoring System by Carchet

A while back a number of people were talking about using the Carchet TPMS Tire Pressure monitoring system. I have recently had the tire pressure light come on and the Lexus dealership quote me about $200 per tire to replace each bad sensor. I have been looking at this as a better option because it displays the actual tire pressures which indicates the specific tire your having a problem with. Now that you have had them for a year are more are you still happy with this system? TIA

Disclosure: I don’t own it so it’s only my opinion.

I doubt the display will fit in our cigarette lighter receptacle area. The receptacle is recessed in the tray. This allows the door to close hiding the lighter and ash tray. It certainly couldn’t close with the Carchet display in it. That leaves the center console power port receptacle, but it’s mounted horizontally at the front of the console box thus making it nearly all but impossible to see the display, defeating its purpose. I suppose you could make a modification or add a cigarette power port somewhere else, but I’m not sure where.

I looked at and read the user’s manual on the manufacturer website, unfortunately or by design, they did not include any dimensions of their product. But you can extrapolate the size it based on two other items and the photos of their product; the size of the button battery used to power the tire sensor as well as the diameter of the receptacle itself. I wonder how many car interiors they had to go through, so they could take a photo that makes their product look good? I wonder if that’s a real car interior or a mock up?

Just my opinion.

Well I was wrong about it fitting in the ash tray area. Not the first time, nor will it be the last. If Bon was happy with it that’s good enough for me, he knows his stuff.

Do think about Bgw's route. You can buy the sensors and have them installed fairly economically. You'll likely have to program them yourself, as he points out but shouldn't be much of a challenge.
