Default Japanese or American made?

I went to the dealership to pick up a few replacement items for my SC430.
The lady at the parts counter mentioned “ohhh , your car was made in Japan” after she entered the VIN.
She also mentioned that some Cars made in Japan might have different parts than the American made cars.
Are most SC430 in American made in Japan or is it a mix of Japanese and U.S. made?
Any difference between the two?

They are all made in Japan. As far as I know, the only Lexus made outside of Japan are some RX (2004+) in Canada and some ES (2016+).

RXGS is correct, SC430s imported into North America were built in Japan, none were built in North America. While she may be correct in the statement about parts for other Lexus models (RX = Ontario, Canada & ES = Lexington, KY) it doesn’t apply to the any of the SC430 models or years.

Maybe it was small talk, or just her way of indicating she was knowledgeable about parts. The funny part, the very first digit of your VIN clearly indicates country of origin = Japan.

Yeah, what VVTI Bob said. JT at the start of your VIN means made in Japan. There were some years of Toyota RAV4s where the car could be made in either Japan or the US and maybe she was thinking about a situation like that. We used to own a RAV4 and went through this analysis. Our RAV had a digit to begin the VIN, not a J so probably US made. Our MDX was also N American made and the VIN started with 2H - made in Ontario CANADA. But this does not apply to the SC430. All vin's start with J.
