2003 Navigation System

I appreciate all the feedback. I failed to mention I don't have audio but the problem is the amplifier which the dealer is replacing next week. I do have a NAV display but just the basic menu, no maps. So maybe only the DVD player in the trunk was fried? Besides the amp ofcourse.

The navigation in my SC430 wasn't working when I got it and I just replaced the DVD unit because I had a spare, but I can't remember if it just didn't work or if there was a message.

OK thanks. I'll hopefully know more in a couple of days.

Dont spend your money on it, there is no point! Upgrade to gen 4 will cost you a lot and still wont give you latest maps and fixing gen 3 is pointless in my view. Maps are so old and no life traffic information. Phone is much better!
You can get a Navtool to use your screen as phone mirrowing and add a backup camera. That would be a much better use of your money.
I am also doing a similar project with complete screen replacement right now but haven't quiet worked it all out yet so wont recommend it until I finish.

I’ll add this though for consideration. Since the Navigation system is DVD based it works where cellphone coverage doesn’t or isn’t available. It may no longer be updated but there if it’s needed. Finally resell value. If you disclose the nav system is not working in the car it’s just another hammer to use against resell value. Whereas if it’s working it’s a positive.

Bob,
The latest navigation apps in your phone ie : Google Maps , does not use cell phone coverage alone. So you can actually used it if there is no cell phone coverage by utilizing the GPS sensors in the respective phones.
The trick is, you need to download the portions of the maps in to the phone itself . Such as when you arrived in a new area, at the airport / Starbucks , I usually used the local wifi / cell phone data coverage to download the Google maps in the vicinity .. Then when I am travelling / driving , I am not encumbered with getting the new maps update ,, but just use the GPS sensor to track the local maps data that was previously downloaded

Well I guess I’m just thinking about my phone, an older LG flip phone, that I use to talk to people. None of that data nonsense, no texting just plain talking. You know where you actually hear what people are saying. Oh it’s unlimited talking for nine bucks a month. My plan, like myself, is old.
