Frankizone you took the words right out of my mouth. Even though ours is a hand built 2001, I don't think it would make any difference, as we're talking about Japanese and not American or Australian produced cars. There's a lot of pride relating to the Japanese work ethic as a whole, unlike some U.S. and Ausie.

There is extensive robotic assembly going on. The unibody is all robot welded, most engine parts are robot machined. Glass, outer body panels etc. etc. are all automated processes. The art comes in when humans work with the various processes and correct, check/test, improve, augment, or if necessary replace automation.

one of lexus brochures mentions that they have a small group of master craftsmen who have control over the production process. “sensei?” It shows

Considering the great care that goes into building an SC430, we should all do our best to maintain them accordingly!

Dunno, but so far after 12 years of ownership, I had two issue with mine. 1. Broken driver side door actuator (replaced) and 2. AC compressor (replaced). Everything else were wear & tear stuff like brake pad, water pump/belt, tire sensor, & etc.

You may have gotten by with simply replacing the compressor control valve vs the whole compressor, according to many on Club Lexus who have done so. I have no expertise here because I have never had to replace a Toyota AC compressor. Regardless, you've done great for 12 years of ownership! I've had no need for repairs in six years.
