...but I am astounded by the fuel mileage my 2002 gets. Originally rated, if my research is correct, at about 23mpg highway. I am consistently getting anywhere from 24-25 on my short jaunt (12 miles) to work on county roads, where there are hills and plenty of stop signs. On a straight freeway run, I will get anywhere from 26-29 mpg, depending on terrain.
Is everyone else getting similar numbers? In my experience, hitting EPA target mileage has been damn near impossible.

on the 2002 I removed the third cat and resonators and it dropped the fuel economy.
my 2002 around 19mpg
my 2007 around 22mpg
if my wife is driving add 2-3mpg

I get 15 mpg on my 02 and my front tires has significant inside wear(erode), the rear tires wear evenly (20" rims). if I change camber settings between 2 to 5 (factory is 0.75 to -0.58) will my mpg improve to 17mpg?

My 2002 gets about 19 to 20 mpg around town (mixed driving) and about 25 mpg on the road. All the gas here has ethanol though and I typically run it on regular, not medium or premium gas. It sounds like your car is doing quite well Maarp. There was another member on here a few years back that got really outstanding gas mileage too. We never did figure out what the difference was.
Prasha, I doubt that changing your camber will improve your gas mileage. IIRC, it was suggested to get them as close to 0 as possible to reduce wear.

If your are in Canada you have imperial gallons. 5 quarts

Actually, in Canada we have litres, and I can do the conversion, thank you. I'm talking about the mileage indicator on the climate control screen, which, incidentally, is the only one I've ever seen that is accurate. I calculate my mileage manually every time I fill up, and it is within 0.1 mpg every time.

It shows the average since the last reset. I guess you could reset it as you're going downhill with a wind at your back, but what's the point? I reset with every fill-up.

Surely the SC got the same or at least similar trip computer that the LS got which shows you miles to empty, average mpg, live mpg, tank mpg, average speed, miles since last fill up, and elapsed time. Unless you have a very early 2nd gen SC, you probably just haven't realized that there's a button which cycles through all these options.

the electronics in the 2002-2009 SC430s were fine in 2002, but they really never did much of an upgrade adding only Bluetooth phone only in 2005.
2010 had a better upgrade but it was old to begin with...they added XM.
i purchased these cars because my wife likes them, the convertible, V8, looks, Lexus, comfort, fun etc, but NOT the electronics, ;-)

Wow... is that the case in both your '02 and '07? I would expect the '07 to have more functionality at the very least.
and the miles per gallon readout... is it average from last reset, tank average, or only live mpg?

Tires are a huge variable as to what type of mileage the SC will get. When we originally purchased our ’06 SC it had runflats with a symmetrical or non-directional tread pattern and could get about 26-27 mpg on the highway at the sweet spot speed which I can’t recall if it was 65 or 70 mph. I then purchased non-runflats with a directional pattern and noticed more noise and a decrease in gas mileage. Directional tread patterns are great for rain, but to me the cons of noise and gas mileage outweigh the rain advantage. It’s also important to keep the tire pressure constant at the recommended pressure, as we all know, under inflated tires will get worse gas mileage. In summary, on most new cars, not all of them, it is common to see symmetrical or non-directional tire patterns that provide less rolling resistance so that they can achieve the window sticker gas mileage ratings for combined, city and highway driving.

The best way to calculate your MPGs is buy filling up the tank to the point the gas nozzle pops, note the ODO, then next time, fill up the tank, note the ODO and the number of gallons, then do the math.
I don't rely on the MPG shows on the cluster.
