I am getting ready to buy the Amazon kit to change my timing belt
Amazon Amazon

In the reviews a couple of people said "Everything you see in the picture is included EXCEPT for the square gasket that fits to the top of the water pump"

Does that statement apply to the SC430, or is it just a 4runner thing? If it does apply, what did you guys use?

I recall when my OEM kit was put on our SC the shop noticed a leak at the top of the water pump. I then asked what type of sealant was used and they told me it was a sealant that they always use and was high quality. I then called a Lexus dealership parts department in Scottsdale where I bought the kit from and he told me to only use the Toyota brand sealant and to also make sure that both surfaces, especially within the small groove are very clean. He said this is semi common problem and was very confident that if both surfaces were very clean, especially in the groove, and the Toyota brand sealant was used that it would not leak. I also recall the surfaces being machined smooth and only had to be concerned with getting the old sealant out of the groove. I personally cleaned the old adhesive/cement off within the groove and the mechanic used the Toyota sealant that resulted no leaks.

This is what I used...probably overkill but no leaks!

if the surfaces are rough, use some 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it out...this helps to guarantee no leaks.

If you use the original Toyota coolant it will eat thru most RTV sealers over a short time period. The Toyota sealant is designed to work with their coolant. most aftermarket coolants and sealers will work in that location. They have redesigned some of the replacement housings and now they come with a thin metal gasket with a rubber inlay. This is a common small leak area on these motors.

Do you know if there is a special one for the coolant system?

Under the 7 answered questions in the hyperlink you posted, the third question is:

"can i use this for water pump?"

"Use on the water pump, oil pan, valve cover, engine head, fuel pump, thermostat housing, oil pump and intake manifold" as says in the product description."

To completely resolve this you could call a Lexus or Toyota parts department.

Thanks goldwinger. I appreciate it.

Toyota must be really proud of their sealpacking, (Toyota part number 08826-00100 ) because it has a list price of $91 a tube. ($68 after discount) https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/...826-00100.html

That is a tough one for me. I am not sure I want to commit a 1/3 of the price of an entire water pump kit for a single tube of gasket maker. I thought I'd try to buy it on ebay or amazon for less but it is still $55 or $86 respectively.

I shall have to ponder this further.

no leaks or cooling issues with the copper RTV...at least two years maybe three.
i used ethylene glycol, not the red/pink Toyota.

Coleroad answered below and pointed that out...

you would think someone is making a product aftermarket that would stand up to the Toyota antifreeze.

it can be very true that using the original OAT coolant eat through some of the different kinds of RTV's. No different than the issues GM had with their OAT (dexcool). The intake gasket and head gasket problems were because of the incompatibility with the OAT coolant. Bgw has been using the old ethylene glycol coolant. So could very well be why bgw hasn't had any issues.
