yes I got the kit but that's the mitsobushi timing belt. I thought it would be a good idea to change the serpentine belt,a completely different belt. correct?

Why the timing belt failed is anybody's guess, did it snap on it's own or did a pulley seize.
I find that is a strange post, $25K? there is no update what he finally did....
I wonder how much would it cost in that situation today for Electric conversion? has anyone done that?

I'll agree $25k was a very high estimate to take out and replace the engine. The only thing I can think of, but doesn't justify this estimate, is that the thread is from July 2010, when the SC430 could still be purchased new at a MSRP of around $68,400. On the other hand the world was in free fall during the Great Recession.

Not sure how practical and electrical conversion would be and exactly what components would have to be replaced, but $25k should give anyone doing this a reasonable start. With that said if I really wanted an electrical car I would rather buy something new that was designed properly and not go through a tedious and perhaps unreliable retrofit. Also stripping the SC of it's well designed and smooth V8 would take something huge away from it's sports/luxury cruiser personality, not to mention the decreased range based current batteries available.
