I agree with all the above diagnosis. I just went through an alternator failing myself and had similar symptoms. However, as Daryl pointed out, make sure that you have good connections. Since it started after you were wiggling the battery cables, I'd start there. Get a battery post cleaner (small round wire brush), pull the cables loose and thoroughly clean the posts and the cable's clamp/connector. There's likely some oxidation there that you need to remove. (You can also buy some stuff that you spray on the posts or small pads that you place under the connectors on the posts that help prevent the oxidation from returning.)
After cleaning the posts and clamps, put the clamps back on the battery posts and tighten them down very tight. You should not be able to wiggle the clamps around the posts at all. Hopefully that will clear up your problem. Otherwise, you have a failure somewhere else, be it your alternator or your battery, though it doesn't sound like it is your battery.
