I got into the car this morning to discover the TPMS warning light was on. Got out and had a look, but there was no obviously low tire. Drove to a gas station near where I work to add air, and found out that ONE tire had lost ONE pound of pressure. Damn, that's accurate.

Not sure how that makes it accurate. That is not how the TPMS works. It is a cutoff point. In my 06 the light comes on at about 26 pounds. It will not come on if I inflate to 33 and it drops to 32. I guess if you run your tires at 27 and it drops to 26 then yes the light will come on.

is it cold at your location or did the temperature drop?
if so, you might be seeing the effects of a TPMS sensor going bad.
the battery could be weak but when you drove the car, the tire warmed up the wheel and the battery to the point it produced more voltage.
by adding air, it may have triggered the sensor to adjust to the new air pressure level and then the sensor was within specs, in other words, the sensor said, “hey I am okay now”
what year is the car and have the sensors ever been replaced?
i would agree the TPMS sensors provide a great amount of information.
if you have TechStream, connect it and take the readings of each sensor.
The car is parked in an unheated garage, and is pretty close to the outside ambient temperature...within a few degrees. The sensor was on immediately, and did not go off until after I added air. I have no idea if the sensors were replaced, I'll have to go through the POs paperwork. It's a 2002 with 80K.
Thanks...next question: TechStream - it looks like software running on your laptop. What kind of connections are required? Or is it a proprietary piece of hardware masquerading as a Windows device?

What was the aproximate temp this morning?
i recenty replaced all of my sensors on my 2002 and did a write up about it. I was surprised how long they lasted.
i learned the hard way by only replacing one, then a short time later the second...within a week or so, the third. That’s when I purchased the last two. iolmaster told me to replace all four when the first went bad, but I was stubborn and didn’t...it was good advice and I should have listened.
not saying this is your problem but if you have TechStream, it might be a good idea to check them out.

Great Questions...TechStream is the Toyota diagnostic Software.
there are plenty of threads on here about it.
you can get it for less than $25 and it includes the cable.
I'll have to disagree with some of the comments on the TPMS system.
I don't know if all years but my 07 has a reset under the dash on the left side. I can adjust the pressure to whatever I want for the tires that I am using. Say I want to keep 40 psi. I set the tires to 40 and press the rest the tell the system the pressure its reading is what I want.
If it drops a certain percentage it will light up the TPM light. Right now I run 41psi and I know it will come on at 33 because it has.

Sensors changed between 06 and 07. We all wish we had the 07 sensors. The ordinal sensors were not as user friendly. It was pass/fail.

Where’s exactly the reset? I have an 07, like to know how do you adjust the pressure threshold? Is there a procedure?
