Magnaflow 16917 Exhaust Installation Issue

Time to update this thread…Houston, we have a problem…yep, the weld on the muffler cracked.
the problem showed up about a year ago. It would show up when you first started the engine cold, it would go away after a few minutes, my guess, when the exhaust warmed up and expanded. I looked several times but never saw the issue until yesterday.
anyway, it’s time to contact the company I purchased from and @Magnaflow
I will report back on the Magnaflow Lifetime Warranty service on this Cat back exhaust system.
I am very optimistic they will take care of the issue since it’s such an obvious defect.
BTW, I have the same system on my 2000 Firebird TransAm, no issues, installed at the same time as the SC430.

Wow, I never would have guessed that would be a problem for a Florida car. It's like it wasn't factory rust coated properly.

Update…I called Magnaflow this morning and they told me I should be okay with a warranty claim but needed to work with the Authorized dealer I purchased from…so I called Hottexhaust up in Canada and Chris was like, no problem, give me your order number from 2018 and send me a picture of the cracked weld and he would submit the claim with Magnaflow. He said they would either replace the muffler or replace the entire system…more to follow, but I am still optimistic about this process.
it will cost me labor money but I am okay with that because I understood the Limited Lifetime going into this project

If they give you a new one, I suggest you spray some high heat paint around the soldering area to help prevent rust in the future.

Magnaflow supported their warranty and sent me a replacement muffler…I decided to change it myself since I have retirement time on my hands ;-)
it was my first attempt at an exhaust and must admit, I wish I had a lift…I may pick up a lift like Oneround has…I forgot the brand but I think it lifts the car 24+ inches.
i measured my ramps and Jack stands, it was 14 inches…

Here is what it sounds like with nothing behind the third Cat… :-)

The "regular" version 5K lbs unit I have is barely long enough to meet up with the SC430s pinch weld spots for lifting, but it handles an Avalon and a Mazda MX-5 with no issues. Didn't measure, but thought the extended version might have issues fitting between the front/rear tires on the MX-5 and SC. On their website regarding new models they now have a page that address size between tires and which model to get.
