Default Toyota Reliability

I know, I know, this is Lexus forum but Lexus is Toyota, right?
I would like to share with you guys the reliability of three of Toyota automobiles that I've owned.
1. My old 1991 Lexus LS400: This car gave me so much joy in driving, so quiet and comfy. I owned it for 20 years, no major breakdown, just normal wear and tear. I finally sold it in 2011 with the odometer of 343K miles for 2500 bucks. The car still in good condition with original engine and trans.
2. My current 2007 Toyota Corolla: This car probably is the most abused car that I've owned. This car continuously being driven 8 hours a day during fall/winter time and 10 hours a day on spring/summer time. Some of you might wonder why do I drive this car that much. Well, I am a driving instructor. On the average, I have 5 students a day (4 during fall/winter time), 2 hour each. Drop off one, pick up another, non-stop. On the weekend, I have 3 students each day, so that's 6 hours of driving. This car is only 11 years old and the odometer is currently at 280K miles. It's still on original engine and trans. No major breakdown, just normal wear and tear, especially the brakes and tires. I do the oil change every month or two. It has no timing belt, just timing chain which I have not replaced. I will retire it next winter as I also retire after 46 years of working.
3. My wife 2007 Toyota Prius. This car is really amazing. My wife commutes 46 miles one way to work, 5 days a week. The odometer is currently at 258K miles. This car is only at the shop for oil change, tire change and rotation, coolant change and brake job. It's still on original batteries, trans, and engine. I just recently bought my wife a Toyota RAV4, so this car is now sitting under the cover. We are selling it for 2,500 dollars. Anyone in LA or OC areas interested?
So, thru my story, you can bet your SC will last as long as you do a regular maintenance.
Happy driving. Long live TOYOTA.

I saw the inside story of Toyota's fanatical approach to quality when my wife worked at a dealership 30 years ago. She was there when Lexus started up, and some of the information coming through about the new cars was amazing. So, I've always know about Lexus reliability. Before I bought the SC a few months ago, I decided to look up some JD Power numbers (yeah, they're flawed, but easy to find). Lexus has been #1 or #2 for damn near ever, and while it was being produced, the SC was the #1 Lexus.

This thing will outlive me.

Ha, I don’t work for Toyota, but I don’t mind to spread the words letting everyone knows about their reliable products. Like a 5 star rating.
Oh I got it, you meant my Prius? Well, kind of ....but it’s good car. We don’t need it, someone might has the need for it.

Hurray!!! My most abusive driving 07 Toyota Corolla has reached the maximum odometer reading of 299,999.00 miles under original engine and trans. Obviously, Toyota did not think this car would achieve this kind of mileage. She has no sign of stopping and still going strong.
During the 12 years of her service, she has been to the shop for hundred of oil changes, couple times of transmission flushed and serviced, coolant services, gone thru five set of tires, three batteries, two alternators, one radiator and a water pump, two serpentine belts but no timing belt since she has none.
I will have to say good by to her since I will retire from my current driving instructor job in two months. I will pass her on to one of other instructor and hopefully he will take care of her as she will perform well for time to come.
Million Thanks and congratulation to Toyota Corp has designed and manufacturing the best cars in the world.

I saw my first Toyota Hydrogen Fuel Cell "Mirai" the other day. Not my style body wise but thought that Elan Musk may have something to worry about. My 97 LS400 has 245,000 miles. She is called "Lady Pearl" because she is so classy and refined. LOL. Love taking her for long leisurely cruises. The stereo is just a BOMB. It's like riding around in a concert hall.

Inspire of recent discussion on Lexus reliability, I’d like to bring back this old and my favorite thread as strong testify for the reliably of the Toyota vehicles. I personally don’t think MB, BMW can match this.

Thank you, Toyota.

Id agree with that but I’d love it if they’d stop making such crappy lower control arm bushings.

It was an issue 15 years ago and I finally get back into the Lexus scene and it’s still an issue.

Bushings aside, great cars.
