Default clunking noise when braking

My '07 SC430 tends to make a clunking noise when braking - forward or reverse - at very low speeds, usually when cold (first thing in the morning).
Lexus service guy said it was likely the brakes (I couldn't duplicate the sound once I drove the car to the dealership).
Any ideas as to what is causing this noise?

Have your mechanic check the suspension if the noise go away when the car got warm up. Used to have this problem with my LS.

More than likely, it is the retention springs (probably the wrong name for it). There are little clips in there that move the pads away from the disk when the pedal is released. When those clips grow weak or when the travel path gets dirty or corroded, the pads don't move as well and a jolt to them sometimes will release them. (There are a couple of older threads on this on this forum.) Cleaning up the brakes and possibly replacing the spring clips should clear up the problem. My mechanic used a special grease to help them become more mobile also.
