Default small motor won't shut off

After I park the car and all systems are off and the key is removed this happens: A small motor (fuel pump?) in the back of the car continues to cycle on and off, sometimes leaving me with a dead battery in the morning. The motor goes on for about 50 seconds, off for about 3:27 then on for another 50, and so on, for hours. This, as well as no radio, began after my mechanic replaced the right quarter window motor and the antenna mast. (The source doesn't seem to be from the antenna motor or the window motor. This sound is from the rear center. It's louder than it was last week, and the volume does not seem to vary depending on if the gas tank is full or almost empty.) Anybodyody know anything about what this might be?

Is it a motor or a fan? The sound system power amp is in the trunk and it has a fan that can get noisy with age.

However, I think that you're right, it is most likely the fuel pump. The power amp should lose power when the key is off. The only other item back there I can think of is the power antenna and you already covered that.

One sure fire way to know. Pull the fuel pump fuse after you shut the car off. If it stops you know it's the fuel pump continuing to run. If it doesn't stop you know to look elsewhere.

Good idea! So I took out the owners' manual and looked thru the list of different fuses but I couldn't find one for the fuel pump.

Hard to say whether a motor or a fan. The exact regularity is interesting, 3:27 off and 50 seconds on, over and over. Also, as I said in my original post, the radio isn't working. After my mechanic replaced the window motor and mast, the VSC ON and the VSC OFF dash lights and the CHECK ENGINE lites were all on. We thought when these were addressed, this motor issue would cease, but it did not.

See Bgw's post #37 in this link.

I think that the 2nd picture, on the bottom left indicates something that could be a pump (picture only shows MP relay, the rest is cut off). These relays are in the engine compartment.

Are you saying that the problem seems to be in the rear located fuel pump but the problem is actually with a relay located in the engine compartment?

No, but to follow Coleroad's suggestion of pulling the fuse, you could remove the relay instead of the fuse and get the same results. Sorry, that was kind of confusing.

oh, ok. My mechanic should be able to figure out which one. This morning after being parked for 13 hours, the battery was way down and almost didn’t crank. I love the car and would hate to trade it in over something like this.

I think it might be tied to the antenna. If the antenna work caused your radio to stop working, that probably means they did it wrong.

The antenna tries to retract even if the key is off. Maybe it is continually trying to retract.

I think the antenna system is not as straight forward as people expect. I recall posts where people have an issue taking it out, so it maybe tied to your amp.

Yes, I agree that something went wrong when they installed the new antenna. The new antenna works fine. The motor or fan in question is in the trunk near the center, as best I can tell, and is definitely not the antenna motor. I've ruled out the fuel pump too, so that leaves only the amp fan. Recently it has been silent for up to two days, then unexpectedly starts up occasionally. The radio is completely silent. I've read that a new amp is pretty expensive, so, for now I'm just gonna ignore the problem.

When they put in the antenna they had to take out some of the carpet. Maybe there is carpet or padding blocking the airflow to your amp. I would check to see if maybe the amp is overheating because of a blocked air flow

This video is long and boring, but it shows you how to take out some of the trunk pieces
