If you do a search on that site it shows the part number I referenced in the original post for an 06 vs 07. I don't know what changed between the two years.

According to the guy in post #8, it has to do with the two stage air bag that is in the newer cars

I found this listing for the "Clock Spring - Lexus" for my '05
https://www.mylparts.com/oem-parts/l...Y4LWdhcw%3D%3D
the listing appears to check for your year and give you the proper part number

I really can't believe that they want $370.00 for that. I paid about half that for a Toyota part on eBay. Geez!

that may be an old part number...here is a another source for that part...different part number.
it appears this part is models built 02/05 and up. I would confirm with a Lexus parts person.

Default Spiral Cable Replaced 3X on My 2005 SC430

I’m the original owner of my 2005 SC430. About every 20,000 miles I have to get the Steering Wheel Spiral Cable replaced because of dead zone of no horn or radio controls. Searching this forum I see the GX and LS models also have this problem. My Lexus dealer service manager told me why after my 3rd replacement.

He asked if I often turned the steering wheel fully clockwise to the stop. I said yes, almost every day. My detached garage is on a narrow alley so backing in or pulling out of the garage I have to sharply turn the wheel all the way to the right. He said this is a design flaw in Lexus models and I have to learn to round out more and not turn the wheel fully to the stop to prevent the spiral cable from breaking.

Do you often turn your steering wheel all the way to the stop?

Be had to replace our clock spring (spiral cable). Not a fun job...nor cheap. Thanks for posting this tidbit. I’ll try to be mindful of full lock turns.

This lock to lock limitation might rear its head with the large number of lock to lock turns needed to purge air from the power steering. May be justifiable to get a vacuum purge assist device to reduce the number of full lock to locks needed to purge the system.

Welcome to the forum F23Pilot. That's great information, thanks for sharing that. I don't think that I've had to do a lock to lock steering with my car or maybe once in a blue moon in one direction. I'll have to remember to avoid it now.

Looks like a good, thoughtful how-to. Too late for me, but good to see on our site.

I will do this tomorrow. ONE BIG question,
On the label on the new spring it gives instruction to "rotate 2.5 turns from left end" and "align match marks." I dont see this step in the above instructions. Or maybe I just dont recognise it.

Follow the instructions on the clock spring if it's in the wrong position it will be destroyed or worse you'll crash the car.
