Default Thoughts on Low Beam Out

So Son who has a 2005 SC430 with 85 K on the clock has passenger side low beam head light go out. Thought was well if you are going to change one you might as well change them all. So I order him 2 new Toyota/Lexus 90981-20005 low beams and 2 new 90981-13046 high beam. He takes the SC to the local Toyota dealer and they install the 4 new bulbs. After the installation the Passenger side Low beam still does not come on? Any thoughts?

Then it has to be that ballast is bad.

Is this the right part number for a 2005 SC 430 passenger side low beam head light Ballast 85967-50020? Does this only drive the Low beam bulb? One on each side?

I googled that part number and it is not the correct light controller/ballast for an SC430.

And YES, you do need one for each side

Ok when I did a search on e-bay it shows it is compatible with the 2005 SC 430 as the replacement part for 85967-30050? So is the original part number 85967-30050?

Dennis,
i think Daryl was nudging you to use a Lexus dealer for part numbers, not eBay.

try this link...

Is that part the same as a ballast?. It appears that the one you posted is a computer sub-assemble for headlight control? Is that 2 different parts? Coleroad in post #2 indicated he thought it was the ballast that was bad if replacing the low beam light bulb did not do the trick. That was what I did the e-bay search for. Are you suggesting that it might be the sub assemble for headlight control?

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for answering however that did not answer my question. I know that Bgw70 always has a handle the SC 430 info and provides great advice but I am still confused as to how many parts are we talking about? 1 or 2 ? Is there indeed a ballast and a computer sub-assy for headlight control or are they one and the same?

That's the name Toyota decided to call the ballast, it's still a light ballast. You need just one, since the other side still works fine.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. So I am guessing the correct part number then is the 81107-24100 which is indeed a ballast by any other name but Toyota/Lexus decided to call it a computer sub-assy headlamp control which Bgw70 showed in Post 6?

thanks Coleroad!

Dennis, when you search for a part, use a Lexus dealer page first, it’s accurate and will show any updated part numbers.
search google with the lexus part number along with eBay and Amazon. I also check Rockauto.
always look at reviews for each vendor and if the part is new or used and if it’s OEM or aftermarket.

in this case, part number 81107-24100 is correct for the ballast...and yes, lexus, like most car companies have a different name for their product.
I looked on eBay using this OEM part number and there are plenty of new aftermarket and used OEM ballasts.
in both cases, locate a seller with four or five stars.
if you go with aftermarket, make sure they show the OEM part number as an alternate.

NOTE: Toyota will use the same or similar part on another model, but they will change the part number to match only a specific model.

example, the NAV computer in our trunk was used in many models but each one has a different part number.

BTW, I would never pay $400 for a new OEM ballast. I would seriously consider a used OEM or aftermarket.
Be sure to check car-part.com if you decide to go used OEM and compare pricing with eBay vendors. Some eBay vendors are salvage yards.

car-part.com is a repository of salvage yards, nationwide. You can even find one near you.

one more...the ballast will fit either headlight.

Thanks for the info. That was what was confusing the part number that I posted in post number 3 I believe 85967-50020 was a direct replacement for the 81107-24100 that you posted? I never ever use Google for anything. I will gladly give up my information to the NSA who I believe is trying to protect me but I will never willingly give it up to Google who is trying to use me.

LoL, that I am sure is a true statement!

they already know everything about me and that is why the MIB guys are always patrolling my hood!

something about Toyota part numbers and I think this is close. The first five digits is usually the part itself and the last five digits is usually the model. So, 24100 should only be for a SC430. I am almost positive the 24 only pertains to the SC430.

here is a good vendor on eBay, OEM used and 100% feedback with over 1700 reviews. Or do you want to purchase aftermarket new?
