Default Does your ABS M/C pump come on and off?

Guys

I notice on all the SC’s I owned ( I had 4 of them at one time or another)
the ABS acculator by the firewall would come on and off every so iften
I know our SC does not use a vacuum system but an electronic system

The SC is super quiet other than the pump comes on
and off every so often.

I even brought one one of my SC into the dealer and the technician say
this is normal operation As long as the ABS is not leaking.

Do you guys also hear the ABS pumping every so often
Not exactly sure if the pump comes on more often in the earlier SC
but for sure my 03 and 04 the pump came on.

What has your experience been like ? Do you hear the ABS
pump coming on in your SC ?

Yes...but not very often...on the 2002 and 2007, they are the same unit.
when I first purchased the 2002, the MC leaked and I replaced it...no issues now.

My 02 MC does not leak but pretty certain
the pump comes on and every 5 minutes ..
There is a very low buzzing and then it
goes off. It is not real loud but it does come
on and off

Wondered if the high pressure pump
is working off and on to create pressure ?

can someone check when driving if their
pump goes on and off ?

Thanks guys

it should not go on and off that often...just a hunch, is the accumulator leaking?

a low buzzing...from?
are you sure it’s not the little servo Motors in the dash?
they control the HVAC air doors...vents, defrost, floor heat etc.

mine are worn out and need to be replaced. It’s usually really loud when I first start the car, then they settle down.

Hey BGW

The Accumulator is not leaking but I do notice the brake
fluid dropping and then rising after a bit of driving

I know the high pressure pump controls the fluid .
There is no leak at all. I know it is not coming from the
servos because when I open the hood you can clearly hear
it is coming from the ABS MC by the firewall.

There is very low humming . It comes on about every 5 minutes
and then it would shut off. That low humming also cane on
my 03 and now my 02 both always had this low humming

I wondered if I should change the high pressure gold/ silver
pump out and just get a new high pressure pump.

no lights from the dash and the brakes are perfect on
both of my SC’s that has this low emitting humming every 5-10 minutes

the brake fluid dropping and rising is normal.
when the pump is running, it adds pressure to the system stores the extra pressure in the accumulator.
you will also notice less fluid in the reservoir.

as you use the brakes the pressure is reduced and fluid returns to the reservoir. Once the pressure drops enough, the pump will start again and repeat the cycle.

every five minutes seems excessive and I know my cars do not cycle this much.

i will mention the leak a different way.
you may have an internal seal leaking and it allows the accumulator pressure to drop quickly.
since it is internal, no fluid is lost externally.

As you know, the MC is outrageously expensive.
Please be sure you have a problem before you spend thousands of dollars.

I see you might be right!

how does my mechanic diagnose my description

is this just replacing the gold silver high pressure pump?

Or do I need to replace the whole ABS MC ?

is this going to eventually fail completely which
woiuld not be good

My next question is how often does your pump
” cycle “ again with the pressure ?

Maybe it is every 10 minutes but I for sure hear
the pump cycling off and then on with the radio
off. I wondered what the SC owners experience
Are with the frequency of the pump cycling?

My 02 currently only has 47K and my 03 had 30K
and I remember the 03 also did the cycling like my
current 02. The mileage seem low for pressure to
go out . Wondered if this is normal ?

tell you what, I will go pick up my 2002 tomorrow and drive it for a few days to determine how often the pump cycles.
the car has been sitting for about 10 days, so I would expect the pump to turn on with the key or engine start.
We shall see...will try to do a video for you. But she is dirty right now!

you might not have a problem...no external leak...let’s see what I find out with my 2002.
i could also drive the wife’s 2007 to see if there is a difference.

try to do the same with yours...really focus on when the pump turns on...

That is awesome if you could check your 2 SC out sir! I just went on line and I see
that there is a code that would be “C1391” if there
is in fact an accumulator internal leak

I do have an appointment with my mechanic on friday
to see if there are any codes

if there is a leak, I need you guys to tell me which
used ABS MC to buy on EBAY. A used ABS MS
is around $300 but I guess I need to make sure
I get the one that is fully functional or the problem
will be the same.

thanks again BGW.

Do you have a way to check the codes yourself?

hey Jonas...I went out to pick up the 2002 but the battery was discharged. I even had the battery tender connected. The tender was showing green. I have two tenders and need to check the tender on the blue car. I hope I just had a poor connection, if not, it will go back to Amazon.

my plan is to return Friday with jumper cables...then I can check the MC pump.
