I have been looking for sometime for a convertible for tooling around sunny Santa Barbara with the occassional (unfortunate) highway trip to LA thrown in. The SC430 has been my leading contender. I love the sophistication, fit and finish and Lexus quality and service. But I borrowed one for 3 hours and I didn't like the ride or handling. I think it's the run flats, and the dealer offered to change them out (go spareless), but not having driven one without them it's hard to say. My other top contender is Porsche Cab, yes it's different, far less sophisticated and there's a lot of cheap plastic inside, but in a BRIEF test drive (they aren't as nice at Porsche as at Lexus), I thought it rode and handled (even at low speed ) much better than the SC. I can lease one for slightly more than the SC (although I think it should be slightly less). I am wondering if you folks who have spent significant time in either could give me some input or make another suggestion on the perfect rag(aluminum)top for a bachelor wanting to have fun but unwilling to spend this much $$$ for a lousy car. (have looked at Boxster, 330cic, SL500 -too much$$$-). Also slightly concerned that none of the magazines seem to like the Lexus. Am I missing something?
