Battery dash light never came on but alternator was bad. Changed the alternator and installed new battery. both are working properly. Now the battery light is on and wont go off.

..now thats interesting.....you might try disconnecting the battery again, then reconnecting after 10-15 minutes, this may reset it

If the battery cycle doesn't help and if you don't have a Techstream, take your car to an auto parts place that can read any system errors for you.

Weak battery, that’s only thing that I can think of. New battery doesn’t mean it’s good. I had to return the brand new battery in exchange for another one. Check the battery voltage or go to Autozone, they will test the battery for free.
