I've found our 1st SC430. Purchasing from a C.L. member who has kept this 2003 in top order. We've done a pre-purchase inspections, with a number of relatively small and unsurprising discrepancies. The shocks are original, with about 186,000 on them. I had never driven an SC until my road test, so I have no idea what the ride should feel like. More of a luxury float than a sporty snapiness, I'd guess. Either way, these shocks are working amazingly well for their age, but the ride is a bit harsh - no bounce though. No question in my mind that a set of four shocks is in order. Since I have never experienced a dialed-in SC 430 suspension, I doubt any of the shock replacement options would disappoint. I think my choices are 1) OEM Toy/Lex shocks, 2) mainstream aftermarket shocks, such as KYB or 3) specialty coilovers (I looked at a sets from Ksport & BC Racing).
Looks like between $450 and $950 for a full set, regardless. Given the relatively minor difference in price for products I'll live with for a long time, cost is not really the primary concern. I just want to make a good choice for daily driving, mostly by my wife. We realize an SC 430 is not a "sports car," but if a set of coilovers make it a bit more spirited in ride and handling, that might be ok. On the other hand, I'm sure a ride comparable to factory spec would be nice.
I will appreciate the thoughts from owners who have already crossed this bridge. Thanks!

I replaced the struts at 120,000 miles. I wanted to keep pretty close to the original feel of the car. It seemed that most coil-overs would lower the ride, which we didn't want. I went with KYB's in the front and OEM Lexus units in the rear. The car rides great now and as a side benefit the AutoLevel Headlight error we were getting occasionally went away. Probably caused by one of the rear struts being very worn.

If you are on a budget, you can go with KYB for the front ($80x2) and Gabriel G51995 (2002-2004) for the rear ($60x2) The OEM rear is about $200 each.
I went with KYB all around and have to cut the rear a little to fit. I would not recommend anyone to do that though.

Rear Struts are leaking both sides on a 07 with 60k mi. Does that seem odd? Looking at replacing with OEM parts. Any bushings I should be targeting for replacement while I have this area opened up?
